Okay, In the past two months i noticed that my mpg is really low and it seems like its gettin worse..i take it to a shop, and they said it might be that the gas filter might need to be replaced.

You think that might fix the problem? How much would it cost me to get it replaced. Can anyone of you do it for cheap?

what car? some are really easy and take 5 minutes, others are part of the fuel pump and you have to drop the tank to get to it.

What the hell kinda shop says that your gas filter might need to be replaced if your mileage is in the shitter? I've never really noticed a correlation...

If a car suddenly starts getting bad gas mileage, there are a number of things I would find suspect, as explained in my PM. I highly doubt that the fuel filter is at fault, though.

a semiclogged fuel filter can lead to poor performance and bad mileage. Fuel injected and carbed. Good call by the shop to identify and alleviate one of the best known and cheapest POSSIBLE causes.

MAF/MAP, weak spark, old plugs, a number of things. your car isn't blowing up the gas you pump in the CC efficiently

i work in a shop and there actually are a lot of people that come in asking same questions, and fuel filter has nothing to do with it, whoever gave you that answer didnt know what they're talking about. all the fuel filter does is DUH filters the fuel. you either get ""quote quote CLEAN FUEL quote quote"" or not so clean fuel. but novadays, gas companies take excellent care of filtering fuel to avoid lawsuits. if i were you, i would worry about your intake. improper timing, idling, and air/fuel mixture are the 3 most common causes for gas mileage. and yes, simple things like tire pressure do play a role as well.

If you think you either get clean fuel or not-so-clean fuel, but the reality is that you either plenty of clean fuel, or not enough clean fuel.

Try driving a diesel with a plugged filter. Fuel mileage doesn't really suffer, but damn if power doesn't.
