Need help locating a 4BD2TC turbo diesel. Usual avenues online aren't very helpful. Been told that recently they've been going on ebay for a mere $1g.

putting together an idea.

Without spending time looking...I'm presuming that this is the 3.8L diesel found in the NPR and NQR trucks...

thats the engine designation code.

its also a lot easier to say than, "Turbo diesel intercooled engine that came in the Isuzu NPR box trucks that just happens to be a 1-to-1 swap out with my gasoline engine and would take only moderate amounts of modifications."

Trying to decide if this is a better route than a supercharger.

I'm trying to find the whole damn thing in one piece.

that designation implies the intercooler that comes with it.

I would do the diesel route. Fuck gasoline for a rig. I want diesel. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

what i usually do is drill down to the 'complete engines' category on there, then search by each word separately. it helps if you misspell too. "camero" has just as many hits as "camaro" and "axel" vs "axle" you know.

^VX. i believe they share a common b-housing with the 3.5, or can at least be made the work.

I would also think an engine that came out of a box truck would be a torquey beast. Probably not much for revs though. MPG?

Figured it was for the VX. What about getting it inspected? Are any diesels even ODB-II?

Lets be clear here that this is still an idea at this point. As Tuite well knows, the 6VE1 is a pretty decent powerplant but it has an oil circulation issue that seems to be completely hit-or-miss as to whether or not you'll get a frozen bearing.

The 4L30E is probably not going to be able to take the torque specs, and only one VX has been converted to manual (right hand drive one at that, rally beast). Probably would need a manual trans out of a '00 trooper along with the ECU and Trans computer so it will play nice with the TOD transfer case and computer.

Ahhh...isn't the Bighorn the overseas equivalent to the Trooper? Or is it the Rodeo?

The older Troopers were called Rodeos overseas.

The whole thing kind of left me wondering...because if you've seen the engines in the NPR's...they're physically pretty big. I didn't think a VehiCross would have room for that. Hell, I didn't think that the Trooper would have room for it.

I think it is the 4J series, and they only made a little over 100hp. The holden jackaroo is the australian name for the trooper.

Hood scoops make it fast.

Tad swap in a LS1 and give me your 3.5L, I think I need a spare. Is yours a 98-99, aren't those the only ones with oiling problems?

What about the DI 3.5L they put in the Rodeos? Everything should physically bolt up, just have to deal with the wiring harness and computer. Toss on a supercharger while you at, with the VX being so unique it would be nice to stay Isuzu.
