^^ u do know that Diskeeper is Executive Software's product which in turn is the built-in windows defragger, right? Diskeeper is just a better, more enhanced visual application of the built-in. 11/7/2005 10:46:26 PM |

disk keeper costs money, runs irritating and unnecessary services, and offers no extra functionality or performance increase. did you know that sir? 11/8/2005 12:40:03 AM |

actually, diskeeper does not have to cost money if u dont want it to, it runs 1 extra background service that takes up practically no memory or CPU usage, and actually for me offers much more improved performance over the built-in.
but hey, to each his own.

how does it offer better performance when it is using the built in software and you have to have an extra service running? 11/8/2005 10:15:40 AM |

diskeeper runs MUCH faster than windows built in defrag utility. I've run it on a number of systems and its always at least twice as fast as the windows utility.
as far as the service, you can disable it if its really that important to you.
and yeah, i remember reading that the windows utility was a stripped down version of a commericial product (don't know if its diskeeper or some other)
Quote : | "It is just a cut down version of a commercial program. I use Diskeeper and have used others and they have options to defrag in certain ways depending on your usage. They also do a thorough job of defragging folders and putting them at the start of the drive. Diskeeper leaves the standard defrag for dead when it comes to speed. One reason for this is it doesn't bother to defrag say a 600Mb file that only has two fragments because the advantages gained don't warrant a defrag. The best thing of all for me is I can defrag all my (3) drives at once, a real time saver. " |

it is not using the built-in windows defragger. it is an entirely separate program that is the fully, commercialized, priced product. the built-in is just like synapse said, a stripped down version since it is free and built-in. and i guess u missed this:

which can be diasabled if u want it to be anyway
