"You often get one chance to make a right impression and, many times, your car is one of the first personal things your date sees about you. Similar to your clothes, your car says something about you and your style," said Ellen Fein, dating expert and co-author of The Rules. About 20 percent of respondents said they had been "asked to chip in for car-related expenses by their date." Of those that had been asked to chip in, 15 percent said they were asked to spring for gas followed by parking (9 percent) and tolls (6 percent). When asked to recall their "most embarrassing car date moment," 22 percent of respondents said it was being told by their date that they were a bad driver. Far more women suffered this insult than men. Second overall was suffering an "upset stomach," followed by being pulled over for speeding, and getting in to a fender bender. Just barely making the list was "getting caught fooling around." Sixteen percent of those surveyed ranked kissing as their "favorite car date activity." But, only 8 percent of females surveyed chose kissing versus 24 percent of males. "

It would make more sense for women to swoon over an asset that will appreciate over time, such as real estate. But then again, you can't exactly show-off on a friday and cruise downtown in your house (unless it's a trailer home).

Success usually = desire. A college kid with a fast car means either the parents gave it to him and they are successful and therefore will make him successful, OR he did it on his own and therefore will be successful.

Either way it fulfills one of the cardinal needs of a woman. To feel safe and secure. You don't have to be filthy rich in most cases but a woman wants to know they wont be living check to check.

There are a LOT of other factors for woman so don't take it like I'm saying any woman is purely material. But it is a big one to a lot of women.

yep. if i won the powerball lottery tomorrow, i'd probably sell my S2000 and get a Lotus Elise (30k car for 40k car), then get an old pickup truck to haul stuff around in.

i'd move out of the house i'm renting right now and buy a larger house (maybe 3000 sq ft or so), but nothing extravagant (i'll be moving in a year, anyway). i'd still live with 3 roommates, just because i'd be bored otherwise.

i'd stay in the USMC.

i'd maintain as low of a profile as i could with 100 million dollars...would prefer for most people not to even know...and DEFINITELY would hold out as long as i could before letting any girl i dated know...i'd try to keep it a secret until maybe after we got engaged or something...because i'd have to tell her when i brought up the pre-nup...haha

Sorry, but money will always be a big factor for me.

I have ambition. I have no desire to work at wal-mart for the majority of my life, nor live paycheck to paycheck, so I have no desire to seriously date a guy like that either who will suck up all my own hard-earned $$.

If you have an old car that runs well, fine. If you have an old car that you have to nurse along and whould have been in a scrap heap 10 years ago, that means you probably dont have any money.
As for ricers--if you have money to waste on on making a decent car trashy, then you should have money for a car that says "quality" not "suburban trash".

I also want to add that I probably wouldn't date someone who was living above their means, either, so if they had a BMW, it'd really depend on how they got it and why.

Of course there are exemptions, like people in college or graduate school, or people not in school but with a present from the parents.
