user reviews? I'm being roped into a concert in December in St. Louis and was wondering what people thought of them live - I've never heard their music

They're great.

There's probably threads around here somewhere. It was nice to see them before they were in commercials and shit and their shows didn't cost $texas to go to.

well, it's true. i'd be pissed if my favorite band suddenly got popular and bandwagon fans drove ticket prices up.

the m&ms commercial with the kaleidoscope effect and the kid sitting on the bench - the music is iron and wine doing a cover of a death cab song

^ its postal service, not death cab. still i think the postal service is overrated as it is.

as for iron and wine, never seen him live so i cant say anything.

i didn't know 'such great heights' was used in a commercial...

and i saw them when they came to the cradle a few months ago, great show. if you've listened to 'woman king' at all, then you know that their stuff isn't all as mellow as the postal service cover.

plus, you're going to the show at the 9:30 club, right? that means you're getting the calexico/iron+wine double dose! they just put out an album together called 'in the reins' (listen here: javascript:openwindow('/player','AudioPlayer','toolbar=no,resizable=no,scrollbars=no,width=298,height=120'), i recommend 'he lays in the reins'). i'm so jealous!

basically, calexico will play a set, then sam beam (aka iron+wine), and then they'll play a set together. should be a great show!

Actually, Iron&Wine is the original artist of the that song and Postal Service covered it.

On a second note. Iron&Wine is just one person.

heh
for some reason this thread makes me think of my experience at the Thrice show this weekend

we're standing out front and my crew told me on of my friends from college was there
so i called him and just started yelling about how many poseurs there are here

like 90 scene kids are staring at me, and of course i dress like a "normal" person wherever i go, so i have a gap collared shirt and some boat shoes on

all these poor teenagers who think coming to a show is the one place where nobody will call them out

i wish someone would have said something...

Okay. I would rather go see somebody at Go! (even though it doesn't exist anymore) in a room full of maybe 30 other people, actual fans, for $7 or $8, than to see them at Cat's Cradle with 500+ douchebags who paid $18 and sing along with the songs that were on the radio.

god dammit, you're right it IS a postal service song

i'm off my game today

but it IS originally a postal service song, and iron and wine covered it. not vice versa

and yeah gibbard is the vocals of postal service, shanna. duh

i'll let that one slide since there is no such thing as "normal people"

and i've seen plenty of people (including several on this site) assume that the I&W version is the original

Yesterday I got SO pissed when I was watching TV and a trailer for this shitty snowboarding movie came on, and "Will You Smile Again" by ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead was the song in the background.

Yeah, I was at the show at the Cradle in July and it was great. Sam is an absolutely awesome guy, and did a double encore. I grabbed a setlist and he signed it after--easily one of the best concerts I've been to.
