I saw a preview for it, and there were no subtitles or anything. Is it somehow a remake of the original? Or is it gonna be another kiddy version?

It is not a remake and it is not directed towards kids. It was originally planned to be released on November 1 but it has been pushed back to April 4.

Haven't the last 3 or so all been remakes of A Link to the Past? Heck, maybe it extends out further than that. You:

Go to 3 dungeons, collect 3 things from 3 bosses.
Combine the three things to open up a world/time/area where there are 6 or so more dungeons with 6 more bosses with 6 more things to collect.
Use those 6 things to get into the super final dungeon with the super final boss with the super final thing.

Every version just updates the graphics to fit the current console and sticks to the exact same formula. The new one will probably be more of the same but with character models that have a higher polygon count over previous versions.

^that's what draws people to the zelda games though.

Hell, I would buy this one even if it was a remake of one of the last ones.
I love the "formula" of the games. The fact that they pushed the release back so far means that they are putting even more stuff into it, or making sure it is a flawless game, and that has me stoked.
we already know that there are 2 realms in the game...the "normal" and the "twilight" realm...
in the twilight realm Link is transformed into a wolf and meets some creature named "Midna".
I would be willing to bet that eventually in the game, Link will find an item that allows him to retain his normal form in the "twilight"..much like "A Link to the Past" with the dark world...
it'll still sell millions of copies.

one thing that surprises me is the lack of new info about the game in recent months. I think they are going to release a lot more info soon.

So it's going to be:

Beat three dungeons to open the twilight world. Beat 6 dungeons bouncing between the normal/twilight world to open the mega castle in the twilight world.

actually..i think we discover the twilight realm very early in the game...
b/c one of the trailers shows Link going to the twilight realm and he turns into a wolf...then somehow he is captured, breaks free using the help of "midna".

Nintendo tried deviating from the standard Legend of Zelda format for the second Legend of Zelda game and everyone hated it. So they have stuck with it and so far nobody has complained.

I was just dissapointed by the wind waker game. I liked the idea of cel shading and it was a nice break from the ever increasing photo-realistic goal that games are aiming for.

I probably wouldn't have cared that it was the same old formula (I liked OOT) but the endless sailing, sailing, sailing, sailing, and more sailing just to get somewhere just to find out that you needed to do something before you left and realizing that you will have to repeat the last 10 minutes you just sailed - twice - led me to find faults in the game.

Yeah I kinda agree.
I loved Wind Waker..but it is the only zelda i have only beaten one.
the tediousness of sailing to every spot on the grid and getting all the items was enough for 1 time and 1 time only.

Don't forget about busting out the wand to change the direction of the wind every 2 minutes. I was thinking about re-playing that game when I got home then I rememberd having to stop the boat and change the wind all the time. Not to mention all the scenery you catch while waiting to get to where you want to go. I might still play it. I doubt I'll get to the second dungeon before I put it down.

OoT introduced a full-fledged 3-D battle system, including the Z-targeting, which has yet to be matched by anyone as far as I can tell. It also expanded the Zelda universe tremendously by introducing new races like the Gerudos, Gorons, and Zoras. Furthermore, it had a day/night system, new context-sensitive controls, a horse you can ride, the ocarina songs, and a much more involved plot than LttP.

Zelda games will probably always follow the "explore-dungeon-get-item-fight-boss-rinse-repeat" formula, but no one's complaining about that. And to call them remakes is extremely short-sighted. The general structure of OoT and WW are similar to LttP, but that's about it.

For one thing, you're neglecting Majora's Mask, a very underrated game, with a dark, Groundhog Day-like plot and some EXCELLENT dungeons (even if there's only four of them). It also expanded on the mask concept and put it to good use.

The structure and plot of the games is largely irrelevant anyway, although the ending to WW succeeds in telling a moving story. Zelda fans EXPECT Ganon to be involved, Zelda to get kidnapped, and for the Master Sword to be part of the plot.

The new Zelda has already shown horseback combat and transforming into a wolf for certain parts. I'm sure Nintendo is holding a bunch of other new features close to their chest. The game is gonna kick ass.

Yeah they've been really tight-lipped about it lately.

I'm just holding out for April, though. I was sooo ready to get my copy this month, but alas they pushed it back. I'm holding out that it's gonna be worth the wait, however.

^^Yeah that is what I was wondering too. It is currently slated to be released in April, but isn't that only a few more months before the Revolution is expected to be released? Maybe they are hoping that people will buy the Revolution and go ahead and get Zelda anyway, although I don't know how smart that would be. Even though the graphics DO look incredible, the game is designed to run on a Gamecube, so it probably won't look nearly as good as any other games on the next-gen consoles (Revolution included)

Zoras were more of a minor enemy than anything in previous games. They became a full-fledged race in OoT.

I wonder if they can do a "dual mode" on the Revolution like the GBA and GBC had. If they had an "enhanced mode" for running the game on the Revolution, it'd help move systems.

Nintendo says the new Zelda will beon gamecube...and rumors it will be on "revolution" are just plain WRONG.

On a side note...

Did anyone play that remix version of OOT that was on the same disk as the original OOT? The one that came with Wind Waker if you pre-ordered. I have it but I never played it. I heard the dungeons were the only difference. I think I played up to the deku tree dungeon, didn't notice a single difference, then quit playing. How would you rate it? Was it different. I can't stand the thought of redoing the water temple over again.

I guess I'm in the Zelda mood now. Since I can't afford new games it is either OOT remix or WW this week.

Yeah the dungeons are just different in that one. "Master Quest" just moved around a bunch of objects. It's nothing really significant. It looks like someone just took a level editor and moved some stuff around.

It'd better be. I already pre-ordered the new Zelda, with the understanding that it was on the Gamecube. If it turns out to be for the Revolution, I'm gonna have to wait a mighty long while before I can afford a new gaming console.

I can't imagine that Nintendo would do that, though. I'm sure that Nintendo itself said that it was for the Gamecube, and I'm also sure I'm not the only one who's pre-ordered it. Why would Nintendo risk pissing off all those consumers?

good example of classic nintendo stupidity. they delay the real zelda game till the console is outdated.

they are probably planning on people buying the revolution just for the new zelda game. i sold my cube...its either 100 for that or 200 for the revolution...so ill probably go revolution.

I loved the idea, I just didn't like how it came out. I don't like having to change the direction of the wind fifty times when it is not even remotely challenging. Atleast in OoT when you had to play all the songs over and over it was a small challenge to know what song to use when.

i've never bought in to link being a bonafide hero... just a child who carries a sword around with him. and yea, when i was a kid i thought it was cool, but being older, i appreciate older heroes.

so basically i dislike the games because i hate the storyline. i have this problem with Spider-man too. just chop off their heads, don't give a wisecracking commentary.

The sea exploration aspect would have worked if there were large continents instead of tiny islands. That way sea exploration would be a nice break rather than a tedious necessity. If you found yourself on the shore of the opposite side of a continent as your boat they could have included a summon boat wand trick - like the summon horse song in OOT.

They could have even done a OOT thing where there were continents as a kid and tiny islands from an elevated ocean as an adult. Anything would have been better than:

I've played Wind Waker numerous times (I have lots of time on my hands ), and I can agree that the sailing part is pretty slow and boring. My other complaint is that there weren't enough dungeons. This was partly explained to me, however, when I found out that there were actually extra dungeons in the game that were not included in the finished product. Apparently Nintendo rushed to get Wind Waker out the door, and decided to leave some stuff out. This included several dungeons. I haven't confirmed this for myself, but if you use something similar to the Game Shark (I think the Gamecube version is called Action Replay? can't remember), you can actually access the level editor and access these dungeons. They aren't complete, and you can't otherwise get to them, but they're still in the game's code.

So I suppose that it's not entirely a bad thing that Twilight Princess was delayed. Yes it will take longer and yes Gamecube will be obsolete and retired by the time it is finally released, but hopefully nothing will go to waste this time. And even if you already sold your Gamecube and are set to buy the next console, Revolution is suppose to be backwards-compatible with the Gamecube, so you can still play it anyway. That's my understanding, anyway.

Oh, and my only other nitpick with Wind Waker was that the order of the dungeons was locked into sequence when there was no real reason for it to be. Specifically, I'm referring to the Earth and Wind temples. There isn't anything in the Earth Temple that you need to access or complete the Wind Temple, and vice versa. You could easily do the Wind Temple first. Yet you have to do the Earth Temple first. I just thought that was kind of gay.

Yeah.. supposedly, the new zelda is supposed to have more dungeons than OOT... so that is awesome

the one part I hated in Wind Waker was how you are given the 3rd pearl. the fish guy just GIVES it to you...you don't even have to complete a dungeon... that was disappointing

i liked the wind waker's style and its dramatic touches, but i felt as a game it was a bit lacking compared to previous zelda entries.

i'm glad that twilight princess seems to be modeled after the more serious zeldas, ie OoT and i'm glad they're taking their time.

Ocarina of Time: got all the way through
Majora's Mask: got three stones, at the big skull turtle that acts as a gatekeeper at the cemetary, not played in maybe a year (my play on this game was very on again, off again, and I don't use cheats)
WindWaker: sailing got old, got to find that the fish people evolved into bird people and took one into a dungeon which is where I'm at, and then being busy has made me not touch the game in a couple months (again, don't use cheats)
