application is a off road only, sbc 350, crate engine

all else the same, why would you use:

1. 6" vs. 8" harmonic damper?

2. 168-tooth vs. 153-tooth flexplate?

I'd rather have an 8" damper...bigger inertia ring, smoother running. It IS more crank mass, but that suits me just fine on an engine that will rarely go over 3500rpm.

168 tooth...much more common on trucks, everybody and his brother have a starter for it, and if it were manual, you can run the big clutch on it (11"). Not only that, but if you have to do a rolling start in gear, you get more torque multiplication.

forgot to mention that it will be mated to an auto tranny

so the larger diameter damper is smoother?

More rotational mass in the inertia ring...where it matters most.
