I would think for most a gig is enough.

If it came down to 512 in one machine and 1.5 in the other I would just put a gig in each.

Otherwise go 1.5

I would go with the 1gb dual channel.

what is the big technical advantage of having RAM in duel channel versus single channel. like y is 1gig in duel channel better than 1.5 gig in single channel?

none of the posts here can even be considered relevant or "right" without knowing the chipset and processor.

I won't pretend like I read anand or some crap every day, but I recall the advantage of having dual channel being less than 10% improvement.

the memory controller is dual channel on one side, (memory side) but a single pipe to your processor. performance increase of going dual channel is not going to be greater than that of 50% more ram
