Anybody know where I can acquire a free-trial pass to the fancy North Hills Gold's Gym?
I went to the front desk and they said it was $10.00 fee for a non-member, but free if you have a 1-day pass. Apparently they are scattered around Raleigh in various lobbys and near cash registers, but I haven't seen any yet.
Has anyone seen these elusive passes?
Thanks! 11/15/2005 5:58:15 PM |

you know you're going to get a relentless sales pitch if you use the pass. if you aren't thinking about joining anyway, it's not worth it. although, they have finally opened the pool there. 11/15/2005 8:22:01 PM |

Man that place is so nice. I remember going to North Hills when I was little and the highlight of my day was getting cookies from that cookie shop. I've been to the Keva(sp?) Juice thats attached to the gym...looks really nice. 11/15/2005 8:39:24 PM |

Yeh it used to suck before. I hated going there. If my parents went shopping there one would watch us and the other would go shopping. We always ended up in the back on the ground level near the dillards where there was this ramp and we'd roll our toys down it. Oh the memories. 11/16/2005 12:24:04 AM |

When my sister and I were little, we used to walk around North Hills Mall with my grandmother early in the morning before all the shops opened. It was her exercise for the day! I have a surprising number of memories from such a crappy mall!

Anybody know what's up with the Golds on Glenwood, right where the Marshalls is? Is it going to be as nice as the one in North Hills? 11/16/2005 5:56:05 PM |

The one on Glenwood is just another gym they bought, if I am not mistaken.
They can open another one because they are charging a lot for an overcrowded gym. I was a member at Highwoods Fitness and Wellness, which became Pulse, which became the first new Gold's in Raleigh, which was then moved to North Hills. It was much better back in the Highwoods/Pulse days, not even close. I'd go with O2 before I go with Gold's, at least they cap their membership. 11/17/2005 1:26:33 AM |

i think golds are all franchises... all have different management and stuff. that is why some suck and others are really nice. golds at glenwood said they are a temporary place and will open their permanent place (the old pleasant valley movie theater) in about 7 months. then they said they would have to close their temporary location bc bed bath and beyond was opening below them...some lease problem. anyway taht was a month ago and now they seem to still be open.. cant figure it out. 11/17/2005 7:09:02 AM |

if i was you and you're serious about going to Gold's then i'd go and check out the facilities and then use your 1 day pass/purchase a membership at another (i.e. crappier) location.
you would be in a better position to talk them down and get them to give you a cheaper membership. this is exactly what I am going to try to do...even though i've already signed up with Capital Fitness (i have a 30-day money back guarantee). I am mostly interested in the pools and after trying out Cap Fit's pool, I realized it SUCKS.

I've seen multi-day trial passes at various Subway locations around Raleigh.
Some rep stopped by my office and left a bunch of 1-week passes...not that it helps you, but they're out there. 11/17/2005 3:08:34 PM |

how much is a membership at North Hills now? I am a member there but signed up last Nov. b/f it opened when they were still promoting it- don't know if they have gone up since.
and yeah if you do the one day pass you have to listen to a long pitch and go on a tour and stuff. sux!

Last I heard Gold's at North Hills was $45/month. It's an awesome gym. I hope they will open something similiar in Cary in the next few years. I would workout at North Hills on a more regular basis if it were closer to where I live...but I try to get in there about once a week if I can...then I am stuck lifting at Beyond Fitness the remainder of the week because of convenience. 11/17/2005 7:55:17 PM |
