My blazer has a push button switch to go into 4x4. For some reason it is stuck in 4 wheel high and I can't get it to go into 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel lo. When I push the button I hear a click in the dash but nothing happens. Should I take this to any shop or should i go somewhere like a dealer since it might be electrical?

Check at the transfer case. How do the chevys shift the rails (elec or vaccuum)?

back back back it up

many push button 4x4s have to be driven in reverse for a little bit to dis engage the hubs &/or transfer case.

if this isn't the problem you probably have a cable or vacuum line fucked up. .

I have never had to back up to switch it before. It's an electric switch that can switch while I am driving but I will go give it a shot. Also can pretty much any shop do the cable/vacuum line?

Reverse doesn't work and neither does putting it in nuetral. It's like it doesn't even try to engage it I push the button it lights up for a quarter of a second and then it stays on 4 wheel hi

blazers (the ones with switches anyway) don't have hubs.

electric on the rails. front axle disconnect is vacuum.

i assume you're coming to a complete stop and putting it in park or neutral before trying to shift into 4 low? it sounds like the motor has gone bad on the t-case, or is hung up. the click you hear is probably just the relay or a solenoid.

it's common to have problems with the front axle disconnect (usually a vacuum leak). basically all early push button/knob systems were problem prone also.

push buttons are for stereos, not transfer cases :flipoff2:

thats why i got a manual transfer case on my 01 silverado, chevys are horrible with electronics. it has hard as a mofo to find that thing too, most people that have push button 4wd have obviously never been offraod before. if you get in deep water and your front axle of trransfer case shorts out, you have a long ass walk.

your front actuator needs to be replaced. buy one from the dealer. the ones from the parts house won't last.
