That is rather surprising to me. So close to a major city like Boston. Don't get me wrong the area is absolutely awesome and driving down Commonwealth Ave towards B.C. is a VERY nice area but I would think it would be a bit higher crime. I still want to move to Newton after grad school.. (either that or suburban New York City)..

So I'm reading that the safest places in America have the lowest concentration of minorities, whereas the opposite is true for the most dangerous. Just a quick look at the demographics and incomes of the different areas pretty much leads to that conclusion.

^ What is considered "minority" though? Atlanta/LA most definitely have different definitions of "minority".
Also, Quote : | "with populations over 75,000" | definitely makes a difference ... from my grade-school days ... thought a city was 50k+ population?

my dad and i bike every year from our home in central jersey to philadelphia to see the national cycling championships. this requires us to ride through camden downtown to get over the ben franklin bridge...he always makes me speed up as we bike through. one time i got a flat tire and he told me to keep riding til we were at least near the bridge...the place def earns the #1 title 11/21/2005 7:18:48 PM |

yeah, I'm from cleveland, but the suburbs. My dad had his car stolen twice from downtown cleveland. you definitely locked the doors in certain areas of downtown. but tons of cities have areas like that. Most of the downtown was actually pretty nice.
Columbus actually has some pretty fucking ghetto areas too. 11/22/2005 9:08:11 AM |

Yeah ...i 'm expecting to see Cleveland on the list . Gas Stations on Euclid and Chester (close to downtown) are My friend got robbed in there. Umm.. I saw gunshot victim on Euclid once. However, I think Cleveland isn't that dangerous if you re in the right area.

Are you kidding me?
Tampa is a shithole. My roommate is from there and even admits it. Ybor City? Horrible.
If you said Naples or Fort Meyers, then I'd agree. Plus, Miami is a completely different place since the rich people took it over and they got that good mayor in 1990. 11/22/2005 2:44:54 PM |

I saw a guy get jumped in Ybor by a bunch of dudes a few years ago and I never cared for the city of Tampa. Naples is full of old people but its a very nice town and a really cool place. Miami is shitty in areas like any city in its poorer parts (Overtown, Liberty City, Upper Eastside), but the poorer places are disappearing rapidly and the nicer places (Coconut Grove, Brickell, The Roads, Key Biscayne) are getting bigger. I would never care to move to Broward County (Fort Lauderdale) and Palm Beach because its seedy and you start seeing more Florida white trash there.
You turn on the news and you see something really fucked up, 99% of the time its in Broward County or Palm Beach County. 11/22/2005 2:59:04 PM |

1. Cary link send redefine 362 up, 44 down Located in North Carolina. A scant 20 miles from Raleigh, it's still possible (and a frequent night-long activity) to whine about having nothing to do. The world's largest collection of anal cops and coffee shops within a three-mile radius, one has ample oppurtunity to buy an overpriced mediocre coffee and somehow get arrested while doing it. Home of Green Hope High School, (home of the 2nd most expensive school parking lot in the nation) as well as the much less snobby and much less talked about Apex and Cary High School.
