I have a 7mp camera that i know can print 13x19 photos.
So my question to you is, who owns any type of 13x19 photo printer and what do you like or dislike about it. Like price, quality of pictures, how fast it prints or driver issues.

You should never print your own photos. It isn't cost effective. Printing at home costs upwards of $0.50-1.00 per page. It cost even more for large foremat sizes. Go to a nice photo finisher (e.g. wolf camera)and get them to print your photos for you. There equipment cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and prints better than anything you could ever afford. Plus, they will charge you less than what you would spend trying to do the same thing yourself on poorer quality equipment.

^I am so happy to hear you say that. I did a consulting project for Kodak last spring revolving around getting college kids to go to camera stores and the likes to use the Kodak printing labs. People think that just because they own the printer, it's cheap. The only good prints (especially if you have a 7mp camera) come from large thermal printers. Even going to the store is cheaper than online (such as ofoto) by about 5 cents a copy.

In short, a 13x19 thermal photo printer would cost you into the tens of thousands (a 8x10 costs around 6k).

I too would suggest taking them to a professional photo shop. I've printed pictures I've taken on home printers on photo paper and they look ok. I've also taken pictures to Wolf Camera and had them printed out and they look 1000 times better.

wolf camera is so excellent. They're good enough that if i'm in doubt as to who to use, i go to them (after verifying that they can/will do what i need, of course ). whcc.com is also good. a local vendor is american fast photo...i've never used them, but they've been recommended to me several times.

This is something I just had to deal with this weekend. My mom wants a digi cam/printer combo for christmas. Some of the printers say that they cost $.29 per 4X6 pic, while the store i was in advertised their digital printouts at $.19 per 4X6. I've read some things about this online, and I would definitely agree that you save money by never buying a home print station when you have stores that will do it for you nearby. I could only justify buying a little photo printer if I was living out in the middle of nowhere or got into bargain basement pr0n.

with advance notice: winkflash > shutterfly > wolf > snapfish

you can almost always find a coupon code for one of them at any given time, too. plus, i think they all give away free prints for signing up.

kind of off topic, but does anyone know if wolf camera or any other places can scan negatives? hi-res?

i need some photos printed, and i'd like to have digital copies of them in hi resolution for future use and all i have are negatives...

its nice if you jsut want to print photos now and then at home and arent doing a ton of them. add in time and gas and it just isnt worth it for a couple of prints (assuming you do this for a while to justify the cost of the printer).

either way, i disagree that only the really expensive printers make decent pics, though for pics over 8x10 i wouldnt bother buying one.

i have yet to see a consumer printer do a job i'm satisfied with.

i would be very suprised if they couldn't. hell, i know several folks with scanners that can scan negs, so for wolf to not have some capacity to do this would suprise me.

I have an economical printer that can print photos if I wanted it to, but I'd only want like 1-2 photos at a time ever printed. I'd like to see some numbers on that $0.50/$1.00 per page.

This is not true. HP offers photoprinters that will print 4x6 in home for .24 per print. If you want more info PM me, I work for HP.
