Orgeron, who came to Ole Miss last December after helping Southern California to two national championships, hired Mazzone from North Carolina State to orchestrate an offensive scheme similar to the one run by the Trojans. But the Ole Miss offense failed to show much progress and couldn't settle on a quarterback, and its rushing game was virtually non-existent after freshman Mico McSwain injured his right ankle early in the Arkansas game. The Rebels rushed for 10, 7 and 31 yards in their final three games. Mazzone previously was the Rebels' offensive coordinator under Tommy Tuberville from 1995-98. Mazzone was fired after the first year of a three-year contract which Boone said paid him about $230,000 annually."

heh, more like the other way around. Rivers made him look good. I remember when Mazzone came in to replace Galbraith during Rivers' senior year, Amato had indicated that Mazzone would have to use the offense that Rivers was used to (basically the one that Chow had taught Philip). Then, of course, once Mazzone used his own bubble screen offense, it was clear that this guy knew about as much about running an offense as our former volleyball coach.

I don't get why he was fired. It sounds like Mazzone's system was already implemented perfectly. It took a couple years to get the Mazzone offense fully in place at NCSU.
