piecework is typically what it is called when you get paid by how much you produce, rather than by how many hours you work. this used to be typical at a lot of manufacturing facilities, and was often thought of negatively by workers. i have seen a few things in the paper lately though, that reminded me of this exact thing. 11/29/2005 12:08:20 PM |

Flextime isn't come and go when you please. Flextime is the ability to vary your start and end time within a few hours. So you can work 7-4, 10-7, or any variant in between. Typically the start time is restricted between 7 and 10 am. 11/29/2005 12:21:03 PM |

yeah, we do flextime here... so i could come in between like 6 AM and 10 AM.... and take no lunch, or a 2 hour lunch, as long as i get my hours for the day. i can even leave early and make the time up later (mod time). 11/29/2005 1:14:35 PM |

most of my days are within normal working hours, but if I have something come up and need to take a couple hours to myself, I can...in fact, if I work more than average time each day, I could theoretically take off those hours from another day. I think one pay cycle I ended up taking 4 days off in a row...that made for a nice 6 day weekend 11/29/2005 5:02:11 PM |

on campus, i believe temp services call it 'casual work' - they employ people for a handful hours at a time, on an as needed basis (big events, for instance). 11/29/2005 6:54:14 PM |
