hey maybe someone who knows anything about building your own cabinet could tell me if this looks like it's good:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6231430542&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

he said he'd sell the thing for 150 if someone could come pick it up

it looks good to me - only needs to maybe add an arcade sized monitor

Contact this company.

http://www.arcadegames4u.com/

They are located right here in Raleigh. One of my friends works for them, and they do absolutely brilliant work.

That's a pretty good deal on the one on ebay there and yes it would need a bigger monitor. If I wasn't planning on selling my house I'd buy it. I've been wanting to build my own for a few years now.

It has the dimensions of several different consoles.

I've wanted to do something like that myself, using 1/2" particle board.
But instead of MAME just mounting my playstation in it. (I have Midway's greatest hits)
Then hacking a PS contoller to real arcade fire buttons etc.

interesting

I'd rather have an authentic arcade-type feel with the joysticks and all that, though

probably PC powered

There are sources for all of that stuff, including repro decals.

The buttons, joysticks, etc can all also be found. So if you hard wire it into a
controller that is hidden under the cabinet it should "feel" like the real thing.

I collect pinballs, but there is plenty of sources out there for vids.

A word of caution about buying a original machine. A lot of the early vids used a
monitor type called "X-Y" which has not been manufactured in over 25 years.
finding old parts is the biggest challenge.

Goddamn you are stupider than I give you credit for.

Go to the fucking Auction on Feb. 4th in Winston-Salem and get pieces for < $50.

I'm trying to help you not get ripped off. Slow down and use your brain instead of being such a damn dick.

I put nearly 500 hours in my cabinet. You can hack shit together in a few days and get it working, but if you want something decent, its going to take a LOT of time and a LOT of money.

I know it's a longshot, but if anyone wants to help me build one, or wants to get rid of one relatively cheap, let me know

dude

if it's been months and you can't do it from scratch...

buy a kit that comes with pre-cut wood and all the shit to do it.

then design custom controls and get them from happ controls

then build a computer and search google for mame frontends and what not and you're done.

i'm about 80% done building a mame cabinet. i'll sell it to you for $800 if you want to finish it.

left to finish are wiring the control pannel, painting, some plexi overlays, and installing the software on the computer.

dude just go to the next auction in Winston Salem. I think it's in march, there was one feb 4th. Im pretty sure I told you about this via PM.

They had working uprights selling for 30-50 bucks. Even decent games, most of the older ones in good shape went for under a hundred.

look man, you've seriously got to have some friends, or make some friends that can either help you with tansport, help you with tools, help you with ideas, and just generally help if you can't do it on your own.

that or pony up some cash for a full on custom cabinet that you want.

nobody is going to just hand you something for 10 bucks that works perfectly and is exactly what you want.

not looking for something that works perfectly

broken cabinets are a good starting point

I just don't have the tools to build a cabinet

it's just a pipe dream for now, really, because I'm in a kind of small apartment

but I know that every once in a blue moon, someone will have an unworking cabinet that they would simply just like to get rid of, and that's what I'm hoping for for now until I can get to somewhere where I can actually construct a cabinet myself

my cabinet is basically what you are looking for. a cabinet that needs some finishing work.

if my price is too high, make me an offer.

I'm still considering it definitely

I have a friend that owes me 1000+ dollars, so when he actually comes through with some portion of it, I'll hit you up
