I'm gonna say that wrist pin just floating around in the 3rd cyl without a piston on top is gonna hurt compression

yeah that is a reverse flow induction on there, Ive talked to the guy who built it several times on hot rods message boards. He's a cool guy and smart as hell to.

He is also the guy who came up with the Variable engine timing that honda uses. He came up with that back in the sixties, but somehow he lost the copyright on it, and HOnda got it, and made shit tons

Ill see if i can find his website

^^that's what it looks like. But that wouldn't be too hard, would it? Just change the chain that drives the cams to be off 180 degrees or so.

not sure if this is correct, but it is what i could find.

Quote :
"If I understand what is being said, the engine runs in reverse rotation (normally, it'd turn clockwise while looking at it from the front. This one would now run counterclockwise) and obviously the exhaust ports are now intake ports, and vice-versa.

These same tricks used to be done to flatties on oval and round tracks. Flatties have 3 exhaust ports per side, and four intake ports. Racers found that the siamesed exhaust ports worked fine as intake ports, and having 4 exhaust ports per side helped the engine breathe immensely.

Spinning it in the opposite direction loaded the chassis to add grip in the corners, rather than the clockwise direction's knack of turning the chassis "away" from the turn.

If I remember right, Edelbrock's roadster had the reverse rotation trick before anyone else, due to the intelligence of Bobby Meeks. Old Vic also ran nitro before anyone else. Lots of trickery beyond his intakes and heads...

See the two black lines coming out of the firewall on opposite sides, each going to a corresponding set of intakes. I'm guessing that's fuel, but I don't know anything about that particular set up.

The only thing I see wrong in the first pic is that you probably don't want to leave that screw driver sitting there when you puts the heads back on, it might rattle or something.

haha, no it doesn't work like that. You move the cam timing 180 degrees and you are right back where you started from. beethead said reverse rotation, which makes sense and would work. Oh, and only one cam in that engine . One thing I'm not sure of is valve sizing. The exhaust is normally smaller than the intake valve, which in this case would make the intake valve smaller than the exhaust valve....

i think the guy had to get a cam made up with the lobes in opposite locations, and he had to do something to the heads

The carbs are from old honda motorcycles, and there is NO fuel pump

and yes that is a magneto

If the guy is so freakin smart why'd he use an sbc which has heads where the exhaust valve/intake difference is HUGE.
