Has anyone had CH315 here.. i want to know your thoughts on it. and if you had it w/ Switzer.
And esp. if anyone has had the distance ed version, thoughts on that would be MUCH APPRECIATED.
thanks. 12/2/2005 2:50:21 PM |

This class is a joke. Seriously. Everyone in the lecture sections "switch" to the online section after the first week. He posts all his notes online, and all the exam questions come from webassigns with numbers changed. Definitely hit up his posted old exams also. Granted, I had a little trouble with following the class because I didn't know where to find the information to do the webassigns and such, but I was golden before the second test when I got into the swing of things (and Excel). Don't even buy the book; I have't opened the one I borrowed from someone else all semester. You won't learn much from this class, just how to manipulate some Excel commands (mainly the TINV, STDEV, and AVG functions).
However, take the lab seriously, since the grade counts about the same as the final (around 25%). Do the prelab so you can have a template later when you get the actual data, and all you have to do then is change some numbers. Worthless, worthless class. Wasted time that could have gone into doing better in my CHE classes. 12/3/2005 1:42:19 AM |

I took the class online.
I made an A in it I think. I would have done better, but some of the problems he assigned for HW(this was pre webassign) were confusing and the book wasn't helpful and his online notes weren't too great either.
I actually learned more stats in this class than I did when I took an actual stats class. 12/3/2005 1:45:20 AM |

I agree you can get through the class w/o the book. And it doens't matter which section you are in (online or otherwise). The class is fairly easy and the labs are a breeze just make sure you up to speed on using Excel! 12/3/2005 4:12:56 PM |

If I remember correctly, in the labs you do a ton of experiements just to get some data.
I remember one of the labs we had to do something with chocolate milk. One lab was a pain in the ass cause we had to dry out the precipitate so we can figure out the correct percent yield.
If you are in a good lab group that likes to deligate responsibilities, the experiements won't take long. For example, my group was awesome about doing this. We were usually the first ones out of the lab. Plus I think we were the only ones that knew what was going on the majority of the time.
We had to do only 1 lab over but that was because our percent yield was too low. We did it again, and the percent yield went up a whole 5% But we had the best percent yield out of the whole lab...so *shrug* 12/4/2005 8:44:24 AM |

it's pretty easy. if you study the exams from like the last 2 semesters before tests it's cake. 12/5/2005 1:30:05 AM |

the only reason the labs take long is because the equipment is not working half the time so everyone has to wait 12/5/2005 7:25:38 AM |

i agree wih pretty much everything StateIsGreat said
the class is a breeze, for the tests-me and some friends got together the night before and just studied his old exams, we never really studied anytime before that...
i made a B in there, but only because I did awful on his final....that was the only test that was really hard (it wasn't like his old finals, which is what i studied)... but yeah, the class is pretty easy
