i dont think id ever post a mmo in a game guide as it isnt something you'd give to just any gamer.
DS w/kirby, meteos, castlevania, mario&luigi and kart. 2 good single players, 2 good replay games, 1 in between. there are other good games, but id say this is a nice mix of the best for a holiday bundle.
[Edited on December 2, 2005 at 4:05 PM. Reason : could probably sub in advance wars for kirby if you like that better] 12/2/2005 4:04:23 PM |

PS2: Guitar Hero Resident Evil 4 (also on GC) God of War DDR Extreme 2
GBA/DS: Gunstar Super Heroes Mario Kart Castlevania: DoS Wario Ware: Twisted!
GC: Resident Evil 4 DK Jungle Beat
Some of these came out early in the year, but as the saying goes, if you haven't played it, it's new to you. 12/2/2005 4:42:48 PM |

Xbox 360 - Project Gotham Racing 3
all reviews of it from customers have almost nothing but praise. Ingame videos are awesome and online features look nice....and a review said there was a lag free online racing....but i dont know
GAMESPOT GOOD/BAD
The Good: The in-car view must be seen to be believed; thrilling sense of speed; online play is lag-free and fun; driving plus bhangra music equals grins. The Bad: Career modes are relatively short; no damage modeling; maximum of eight players online seems a bit low for next-gen; load times can be tedious.

Any of the Prince of Persia games, they are out on all three systems and the PC. The third game (The Two Thrones) just came out. 12/4/2005 1:45:26 PM |

WoW is not for people with addictive personalities, same goes for any mmorpg though. It was fun at times, frustrating at others. Seemed to lose the imersive feel and the whole caring about why you're doing anything about level 45-50. Game was really awesome at mid levels though.
KOTOR I&II are worth a look on either xbox or PC.
Winter assault and warhammer 40,000: dawn of war are good for the pc, also reasonably priced.
F.E.A.R. is freaking awesome for the pc, you need a good system for it though.
Oblivion WOULD be a pick... if it were out yet. 12/4/2005 2:12:24 PM |

So this thread is a guide for what games to buy people for the holidays or what game to buy for yourself that is coming out during the holiday season?

I think that the point is you don't want to buy a game for someone for christmas that has a monthly fee attached to it. Merry christmas... enjoy it to the tune of $15/month. A gift that isn't a gift because you have to pay to use it. I guess you could also get them a pre-paid subscription along with the game but I know I'd rather get two PC games than one mmo game with a few months worth of a subscription.

it really isnt so bad and you could get them a card with a few months on it for them to try.
the problem i have is that its one of those games that really isnt for everyone. WoW is a little bit less so but i dont see how we can ignore guitar hero for being too niche, but an mmo is for everyone. 12/7/2005 10:06:57 AM |

I bought Guitar Hero two weeks ago.
My roommate has been playing it practically nonstop since I got it, and he has no previous musical experience.
It's a shitload of fun. 12/8/2005 11:17:26 AM |

I've been playing Warrior Within the past few days (it came with my video card, but I just got around to installing it). Wonderful game, but the bugs in it are awful (several of them require you to reload from a previous save if available, or start from the beginning if not--like I had to do) and Ubisoft never bothered to release a patch.
I'm considering Two Thrones just because the gameplay of WW is so great, but I want to hold out and see what the verdict is on bugs...12/8/2005 12:12:11 PM |

^I have been playing Two Thrones (Gamecube version) for about a week now and it is awesome. It has all the gameplay of the first two POP games but with additional combat moves and a whole new speed kill system. I haven't encountered a single bug in it. I do agree with you on the bugs in Warrior Within though, there were way too many times when the audio would be off or the diologue wouldn't even play during a conversation. I would understand not being able to release a patch for it for the console versions but Ubisoft could have easily done something about the PC version. Have you played the Sands of Time? 12/8/2005 2:48:29 PM |

i was one of the few who wasnt a big fan of the sands of time i guess. the combat system felt overly shallow and the controlls/camera for it didnt mesh. it was a really pretty game and the jumping puzzles were cool, but i find them to be more frustrating than enjoyable in the long run. some ppl enjoy that, but not me. 12/8/2005 3:09:47 PM |

warrior within was stale and tasteless when compared to sands of time. they took everything they got right and changed it. I'm leery of two thrones, but will probably get it soon 12/8/2005 4:23:06 PM |
