Although it doesn't stop the problem of mass emailing, you can cut the sounds by going to your profile and selecting NO under "Play Sounds"

I DISAGREE! It's so goddamn easy to just delete all the mass e-mails, without even reading them! I just read through all of mine (about 25) in only one minute, then deleted them in 5 seconds.

You can go to your profile and choose not to hear the new mail alerts. It's really not that difficult to delete them all. Chill out.
