If there is a similar topic out there I apologize, but my friends and I are debating whether to spend New Years Eve night in Charlotte after the bowl game. Does the city have any special new years eve events going on or is the nightlife there generally good or what? Just trying to figure out if its worth it to stay in Charlotte new years eve night as opposed to the night before. Thanks guys

New Year's is what you would expect for a decent sized city. Tons of people go downtown to do the countdown thing and watch the fireworks at midnight. People get wasted at the bars/clubs, go out in the middle of downtown to do the countdown/fireworks thing, then go back to the bars/clubs to get wasted even more. Pretty much your typical big city atmosphere albeit not on the scale of NY City or anything. Whole thing is if you are gonna go downtown and you want to get a cab, you are screwed, you won't get one. Demand far exceeds supply as far as cabs go on New Years. So you might want a DD or stay at a hotel that's in a close proximity to downtown.

http://charlotte.citysearch.com/find/section/charlotte/hotels_visitors.html?

you oughta be able to find something there. there's a holiday inn in downtown, a westin, the dunhill, the omni, hilton, marriott, maybe a couple more right outside of downtown.

the Westin is a very impressive building. expect to pay $115+/night there. you can sometimes get hotel offers in the upper 90s.

try $225 for the cheapest room - I think they're booked solid.

the westin probably increased their rates for the holidays. i've seen prices during normal times at 115-150 depending on the room.

you're not going to be able to find a hotel for just the 31st. Everywhere is requiring 2 nights.

For the ECU game I went through Expedia.com and got 2 nights at the Westin (2 Beds) for $65/night

They jacked the prices for the Holidays and becuase it's the end of the fiscal year and every businessman is traveling

everything is booked downtown so we are staying at a hotel near the airport, which i think is like 5 miles from downtown (or so my sister says). and its about 125 a night. so if anyone is having trouble finding somewhere, look for hotels near the airport.

forgot to add we are staying 30th and 31st

I will be at the Marriott Center City with a few other wolfpackers. It is within walking distance of the game and all the new year's festivities.

It was something like $150 a night, but i am splitting it a lot of ways so it won't be so bad. I didn't want to have to drive anywhere all weekend, so I decided to just stay there.
