1. PRISON GUARDS GRAFTED FEMALE BREASTS ONTO TERROR DETAINEES
2. PRISONERS WERE FORCED TO DISSECT THE ROTTING REMAINS OF FELLOW DETAINEES
3. TERROR SUSPECTS WERE FED THE FLESH OF DECEASED PRISONERS
4. LOBOTOMIES HAVE BECOME STANDARD PRACTICE AT SECRET DENTION FACILITIES
5. AT ONE POINT, SEVERAL PRISONERS HAD ALL THEIR LIMBS AMPUTATED AFTER BEING DEEMED "UNCOOPERATIVE"
ALL OF THESE FACTS ARE TRUE BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT ISN'T REVEALING ALL CLASSIFIED INFORMATION REGARDING PRISONERS

Quote : | "Former Iraq Leader Tells Paper Abuse There as Bad as in Saddam's Day
By E&P Staff
Published: November 26, 2005 10:15 PM ET
NEW YORK Abuse of human rights in Iraq is as bad now as it was under Saddam Hussein, if not worse, former prime minister Iyad Allawi said in an interview published on Sunday in the British paper The Observer. "People are doing the same as (in) Saddam Hussein's time and worse. It is an appropriate comparison," Allawi said.
Allawi was Iraq's first prime minister of the post-Saddam era but failed to win January's election, which brought current Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari, an Islamist Shi'ite, to power.
"People are remembering the days of Saddam," said Allawi, a secular Shi'ite and former Baathist who is standing in elections scheduled for Dec. 15. "These are the precise reasons why we fought Saddam Hussein and now we are seeing the same things.
"We are hearing about secret police, secret bunkers where people are being interrogated," said Allawi in an apparent reference to the discovery of a bunker at the Shi'ite-run Interior Ministry where 170 men were held prisoner, beaten, half-starved and in some cases tortured. "A lot of Iraqis are being tortured or killed in the course of interrogations."" |

i meant to add that they have also forcibly removed the molars from the mouths of suspected insurgents thereby garnering the nick-name "dention facilities"
this is true because guardian.co.uk wasn't given a full debriefing of all classified info regarding prisoners in the war on terror

no, my point is that this sort of logic has become standard operating procedure for most european and some american news media. It is par for the course with human rights groups.
They report as though they had hard proof that torture was occurring and then at the last moment they'll quietly and quickly acknowledge that they don't actually have a clue what's going on because they are secret prisons. 12/9/2005 1:18:44 PM |
MathFreak All American 14478 Posts user info edit post |
They do have a clue. There are reports by people who have been there. 12/9/2005 1:23:59 PM |
Excoriator Suspended 10214 Posts user info edit post |
yea, there are reports from prisoners and there are also reports from guards denying torture. there's just as much motivation for prisoners to lie about torture as there is for the guards to deny it.
the point is, there's no credible evidence either way - BECAUSE THEY ARE SECRET - yet everyone keeps talking about it as though it were gospel truth

From andrewsullivan.com
WAKEY WAKEY: National Review's Mark Levin wakes up, stretches, rubs his eyes and asks:
Quote : | "And where is all the evidence that U.S. armed forces and intelligence serves are engaged in torture? Is it widespread? Where is this occurring? McCain hasn't made the case. We get mostly the same kind of platitudes he was famous for during the campaign-finance reform debate, e.g., the system is "corrupt," money equals corruption, and so forth. Shouldn't we stop beating up ourselves over this until such evidence is presented? We seem to be making law here based on hypothetical arguments, or worse -- left-wing and enemy propaganda. " |
I refer Levin to the Schmidt Report, the Taguba Report, the Jones-Fay Report, the Schlesinger Report, the mounds of evidence collected by the International Red Cross, the hundreds of carefully checked newspaper reports documenting torture, abuse, murder, rape, and beatings in every single theater of this war by every branch of the armed services against defenseless military detainees. I refer him to the testimony of West Point graduate Ian Fishback and countless others. I refer him to the many memos constructed by the Bush administration defining and redefining "torture" to the point of meaninglessness. May I offer him a cup of coffee and a warm welcome to reality as well?
(By the way, the Lowry notion that the McCain Amendment offers no guidelines as to what is permitted is untrue. The McCain Amendment specifically endorses the Army Field Manual, which specifies 17 specific interrogation techniques, and has been the gold standard for decades, until the Bush administration endorsed torture. One question for Lowry: does he define "waterboarding" as torture? It's funny but I have yet to get a single Bush apologist on record saying so. I'd think waterboarding is indisputably torture. Condi Rice won't say if it is. Rumsfeld won't say if it is. Bush won't say if it is. Ever wonder why? Memo to Lowry: because we've done it.)12/9/2005 2:43:39 PM |

I mean, the point of this thread is not about whether people are being tortured - there are other threads to debate that.
My main point here was to call attention to the way european and some american media are reporting on secret prisons, as though torture was happening in them.
its actually a VERY good illustration of liberal media bias. A reporter should be giving us only the facts, not postulating his own theories on what could be happening when he has absolutely no idea what's going on.

Except when he does. Let me repeat something for you, although I'm not entiely confident in your reading capabilities.
Quote : | "I refer Levin to the Schmidt Report, the Taguba Report, the Jones-Fay Report, the Schlesinger Report, the mounds of evidence collected by the International Red Cross, the hundreds of carefully checked newspaper reports documenting torture, abuse, murder, rape, and beatings in every single theater of this war by every branch of the armed services against defenseless military detainees. Again, Americans torture people as a matter of policy. That happens everywhere. The working assumption is now that if there's a prison with foreign detainees, there is torture there. It has been proven a working formula, based on numerous observations.
That being said, you lie when you claim that anyone reports tortures in secret prisons as facts. Show me one quote where anybody would say that. People suspect torture given the mounds of evidence from other places, which is an entirely reasonable thing.
Of course, you see a liberal bias, because to you pseudo-conservative fucks, objectivity means spending 50% of time discussing a possibility that gravity exists, and the other 50% that it doesn't.12/9/2005 5:57:37 PM |

By the way, I just had a revelation! Liberals are employing the same tactic that Bush used when he linked Saddam to 9/11.
Bush: "Saddam used wmd previously" Libs: "Abu Ghraib"
Bush: Mentions 9-11 in the same sentence Libs: Mention secret prisons in the same sentence
When you think about it, the situations are so similar its incredible. There's a vacuum of information regarding the secret prisons, just like there was w/ regards to Iraq before the invasion. Both camps like to mention prior occurences (abu grhaib & gassing the kurds) in the same sentence while they verbally attack what they oppose (saddam & secret prisons)
so awesome! gg liberals!!12/13/2005 12:14:00 PM |
