uh no, didn't 'have to' but these snow tires where all they had left in stock that would fit my rims...and they weren't even in stock, some guy with an M3 had special ordered them, but since the guys that run that firestone are friends with someone that works with my dad, they helped us out...and since i had to drive about 3 miles in the snow on the stock tires, i can tell u it was not safe at all...and no, i was not on the interstate the whole time. Most of the roads i drove on to get to I95 where hardly plowed...kkthx, this was no NC snow storm
