Okay, so my god-awful Sprint contract expires the second week of February and I'm gonna need a new phone. A new carrier, as well.
I need: Signal strength Bluetooth Speakerphone
I want: Good camera Media capabilities Sexy
Any recommendations? Price is not really a consideration, as long as it's reasonable. I could spend as much as $500 if there is a phone awesome enough to justify that. Any suggestions? 12/11/2005 12:06:42 PM |

Well, I really really REALLY hate Sprint. Is there any reason to believe I would get better reception with another carrier? Or is it still awful across the board. 12/11/2005 1:11:23 PM |

Only carrier that you can compare to is probably verizon.
Cingular's reception really sucks, depending on where you are.
CDMA networks dominate the US.
However judging by a friend who has verizon, around raleigh sprint still has better coverage. 12/11/2005 1:15:00 PM |

With my phone right now, with Sprint, there are three places between work and home (25 minute drive) where calls drop completely. 12/11/2005 1:31:45 PM |

CDMA > GSM
Verizon > Nextel > Sprint > Cingular > Altell
if you get cingular you will need to learn how to understand R2D2 language, same goes for nextel, with sprint the calls never get garbled just dropped.
verizon is probably who u wanna go see. 12/14/2005 4:32:11 PM |

There's as much CDMA in use worldwide as is GSM. Just that GSM operators have better tie ups with other providers. Also that CDMA has so many versions and continental incompatibilites. 12/15/2005 12:34:06 AM |

CDMA is considerably better than GSM - in technology, coverage, capabilities, scalability, in EVERYTHING...if you want, i'll go find that thread where i offer proof that no one on tdub (so far) has been able to argue with, other than the obviously lame excuses
the only thing i give GSM is that their phones are prettier, have more useless gimmicks, and they come out with new phones more regularly...all of these are simply ways to cover up that they rely on inferior technology
i got bored, here's the link to the other thread...anyone who wants to argue, bring it on:

LOL have you looked at a 'coverage' map for CDMA tech? probably not, there are maybe 3 countries in the world that use CDMA....the us, Japan (its a better and totally different CDMA network) and some little country in Africa. Everyone else uses GSM12/15/2005 2:07:00 AM |

alltel now offers the razr...i know nothing about the phone (other than it DOES have bluetooth, it has a camera, and it's supposedly sexy)...
i have the nokia 6255i, and it has a decent camera (granted, it's not 2mp or anything, but that's why i have a digital camera), the bluetooth hasn't been crippled at all, it runs java games...it's not all that sexy, though 12/15/2005 2:10:52 AM |

lol, i've always said. Being in the US you feel like you are on a totally different planet. No idea that a whole world exists beyond your borders...and your small simple minds prove that from day to day.

Don't get the Sony Ericsson W800 the towel head suggested. A lot of Cingular's network in the East is 850Mhz, and you'll have limited coverage. 12/16/2005 12:51:16 PM |

ok redneck, i have this phone and i've had no problems with it all the way up and down the east coast and all over Europe...kkthx
and the only time i have a towel on my head is when i'm drying my hair after a shower...i swear your mind gets smaller and smaller with each new day.

1. I am not a redneck. 2. Check Cingular coverage, towelhead.
It is predominantly 850Mhz in the East. 12/16/2005 4:18:48 PM |
