I currently drive an old ALE Chevy Caprice with a 350 in it and currently gets 20 MPG.

I have been studing the Accord and most of them 03 and up get 30 on the highway and about 23 in the city. They look nice and a extremely sporty on most of the 2 door and 4 door editions.

Anyone want to give me a heads up or make another suggestion?

I should hope the new ones get better than 30

I have a 91 Accord and I regularly get ~30 with a mix of city and highway driving

^^ I dunno. The new ones are probably a lot heavier than yours and make more powR too.

The new ones are a LOT bigger and heavier than the 91's, hence minimal gains in fuel economy. (Tradeoff for gains in comfort, safety, room, power, etc.) I'd almost say that a current Civic is closer in spirit to the 3rd/4th gen Accords ('86-'93).

With the new V8's, like the claims they're making for the Impala SS, I think that often involves variable displacement or other such technical tomfoolery. And you're still going to get hurt by the city MPG, which will be a lot higher with a smaller car.

Going from a 350 to an Accord may take a bit of getting used to..

Yeah some of the newest cars are using that to really help the fuel mileage but definetly not on my corvette. Going to boone and back I got around 29mpg roundtrip. The city mpg is f'ing terrible and usually I get around 22mpg overall--still not bad for having over 300HP at the wheels.

20mpg isnt so bad for a 350..

shit i got 20mpg averaged in the 3.2l R32 and am only getting about 21mpg average in the M3.. blarg. that is 80% city driving.

You average 22 on the 'vette? Not too bad. I can get a steady 25-26 MPG highway (at 75-80 MPH, if I drove the speed limit it might be better .) in my Lincoln, but I'm lucky to get 15 city... For a V8 in a heavy-ass car I can't complain too much though.

^^yeah 6th gear is the shit. on the digital read-out the fuel useage changes drastically from 5th to 6th--much more than I would have expected. I'm not really sure how accurate the thing is since it claims I'm getting like 25mpg all the time and I'm not, but whatever... it ain't bad

husband has an 03 ex - v6, leather, etc. he likes it fine. gets good gas mileage and has decent get up and go. i'd pick a acura tsx instead tho (oh, wait... i did ). sportier styling, more fun, better interior imo, but still uses honda parts.

I like the refresh that Honda did for this year's Accord. The back end looks much better.

i agree.

the 4 cyl accords are nice. the quality of the parts has gone downhill quite a bit, but toyota is the same way. i regularly get about 27mpg mixed driving, more than 30 on the hwy which is wayy higher than the EPA sticker on the window.

it's funny how people are getting hybrids and crap for "fuel efficiency" (i.e. prius), yet they could pick up an old honda and get 45+ mpg on the cheap. hell, no one is buying the hybrid accord, but they'll wait months to buy a used prius for wayy above sticker. i guess it's about keeping up appearances and creature comforts for a whole lot more $.

Elaborate. I do know that Camry's are built in the U.S. now so that's probably not helping...

the accord hybrid gets wayyyyyy less mpg (when you buy for one stat line even 3 less is alot)

i think the v6 isnt helping matters......

yeah an old nissan sentra will net you 35-40mpg or so my neighbor says

actually, assembly isn't the problem. it's streamlined so much that it doesn't matter where it's built. it's mostly the quality of parts that it's comprised that are important.

my honda is assembled quite well, BUT the quality of the parts is crap.

in order to maximze profits and lower costs (capitalism yay! nothing wrong with it), they've spec'ed cheaper parts and that's rather evident as of late. the quality of the rubber parts (i.e. weather stripping, gaskets, etc...) won't last more than 7-10 years in the right conditions, when they would go for years longer on previous models). the japanese companies are riding on their reputations, rather than building higher quality/longer lasting cars (of course that conflicts with a profit based business model). of course i'd still pick a honda/toyota over a domestic, b/c i'm patriotic and i want to support my country.

that's the whole point of getting a hybrid accord, b/c it has 250HP and gets 30mpg in the city. they haven't targeted the right audience yet. the rich hippie crowd that sold their soul 4 SUV's ago aren't gonna stop now.

nothing sporty about an accord

but it's a superb car for a non "car guy".

it does what it's designed to do (efficiently transport you from point A to point B with minimal fuss and maximum reliability, and do all things required of it by your average Joe) very well

basically, it's a jack of all trades, master of none (well, ok, it'll run forever)

hell it's a superb car for a car guy who wants a reliable DD in addition to a track car. unless you want a track car that you can also DD.

i don't think it's a superb car for a "car guy" at all, unless he has a "car guy" car and the Accord is strictly a DD...then he's using it in the same way a non "car guy" would.

but most people don't have a dedicated track mule

The Prius has a distinctive look. People buy a Prius because they want to make a statement. They want everyone to know they are environmentally conscious. An Accord with a hybrid badge doesn't have the same impact.

yeh thats mcangel1218's loaded '03 EX V6, very nice car. the only thing I really wish she had in it that she dosent is onstar. i have actually though of getting her into a GM just for that reason, but she loves the accord too much. she wanted dark blue instead of red, but we couldnt find a blue one with the taupe interior, only black.
