Article is poorly written but does illustrate a good point: You need one good idea to make a web site grow, and the rest will take off on its own.

but if you are making $150K a year, does that make you a millionaire? i mean, being a millionaire would imply that you've got at least one million dollars in potentially liquid assets?

$150K a year, subtract the taxes... it'd still take a while to gain $1 million, right?

BUT, i suppose with my level of income, it'd take a whole lot longer than that... so i should stop with the analysis

Looks like all he did was design a website....hes just reselling someone elses product. Anyone who can put together a secure website and get yourself set up as a business so you can get wholesale prices can do this.

props where props are due. It's not like he is a genius -- he just found a good niche.

really how can anyone hate on this guy? Sure maybe it didnt take much technical ability, and yea its not the most exciting product to sell. But he took a risk, and didnt settle with working for someone else. who gives a shit if its original or not.

haha..i fucking love drop-shipping. I've been selling other peoples items on ebay since high school. I never even touch the actual product. Granted, i dont do near that much in sales per year, but I make a good amount at it.

That just makes me want to do online sales, but since I'm even less original than this guy, I'd probably end up with ihavechairstoo.com.

no doubt. much respect for the guy for that. Most of the wannabe pundits in this thread point out his lack of originality or whatever, but I'd like to point out their lack of dollar bills.

I tried to cash in on Y2k in the late 90's with a decent degree of success. Knowing what I know now, I could have made a million or more if i went back and did it again, but I still made decent bank.

it's not unoriginal, but he could be doing a lot better than he is

there's at least an immediate 2-3x increase in audience that he could reach with just a slight tweak on his marketing

thankfully he's not doing what he could because seeing the story a couple of months ago led me to quite an idea and i think it's going to work out rather well

What is this guy going to do when the manufacturer wises up and creates a website?

oh wow, i bet the manufacturer hadn't thought of that......

That's not their business model - they're full aware of what's going on, and that's what they want. You can find lists and lists of manufacturers that want to do drop shipping - they want to concentrate on what they're good at: making products. Not marketing, not dealing with customers, not finding new distribution channels. They probably have a dozen independent websites that sell their shit for them. The websites deal with finding customers, finding markets, taking orders, dealing with customer support, etc.

Thats true, but I think there may be a long term problem with his business model because it is so easily duplicated. Anyone willing to accept thinner profit margins could potentially ruin his business. That is the case with many businesses, but most are not duplicated as easily. He just needs to stay on top of it and and be aware of threats.
