locally, BB&T if you can't get an account with SECU.

Nationally, BoA, but if you don't do a lot of traveling, BB&T is a better choice.

I have accounts at both Wachovia and BB&T...and honestly, both suck around campus. But I'd go with BB&T if I had to choose only one.

Wachovia is fine..but only if you can keep a steady balance and not be down to only a couple bucks in your account... Their fees are killer for overdrawing, and overdraw coverage by having a savings account is like $10 everytime you need it...it sux if you only have a few bucks

But a ton of locations and their online stuff isn't too bad either

Isn't BOA's online account access thing the one that updates the fastest and posts your account activity the soonest?

Yeah they do, they charge either 1 or 12 dollars, depending on whether it's the first time that month.

I don't want to blow your fucking mind or anything, but a lot of college kids live on a very minimal amount of money. Also, a huge amount of people don't realize that you can overdraft with your check card. I know a lot of people who have racked up $300 in overdraft fees from a bunch of four and five dollar charges by people who still thought they had some money left.

Don't use RBC Centura. They have lots of fees and require you to have a crap load of money in your account.

CCB was my only bank since I was a kid...but I moved after it merged with SunTrust. I don't have much experience with SunTrust, but I haven't had any major problems with using my check card or anything.

SECU's overdraft charge is 0.50 each time you do it. I think you get like 6 times a month or something. What they do is take 50$ from your savings account (or wahtever account your overdraft one is) and put it in your checking for you and charge you 0.50$. I'm not sure what they do if you dont have another account linked to your checking.

You're correct, you can have 6 overdraft transfers a month.

If you don't have an account linked, you don't have overdraft protection, and it would classify as having insufficient funds and $12 would be charged to your account.

I had CCB growing up (starting with when it was called NBC bank). Switched over to SECU a couple of years ago and haven't looked back since.

I used to only use the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union,

but since that's not an option at my current location,

I use Wachovia (however, they are only in midtown).

Are you still a student?

I have accounts with SECU (not available to you prolly), Wachovia, and BoA
Wachovia is great for me while I'm still a student. If you're going to go to the West Coast ever, get the BoA. I was in Vegas for a week and had to pay exorbitant ATM fees because Wachovia doesn't cross the Mississip. Anyway, BoA has been pretty good so far for my checking, but I haven't used them much.

why don't you want to stay with SECU?

Quote :

banking with SECU means you have a share acct linked to your checking acct.
now, whether you have extra funds in the share acct to transfer is an entirely different matter
