I've got a Netgear RP614 router (v1), and every 5 or 10 minutes, the traffic stalls on it for anywhere from 5 to about 45 seconds. It's annoying as hell when I'm gaming and get huge lag spikes, or when I'm on a voice server and someone's talking stops, only to resume 20 seconds later simultaneously with 3 other people responding.

I have no problems if I hook my computer up directly to my DSL modem, so I'm pretty certain it's the router.

I've tried googling and found a few other complaints about this particular router, as well as checked Netgear's site. I updated the firmware to the latest version, double-checked settings to where I feel like they're correct, but am still having problems. My connection doesn't require any kind of authentication, so it shouldn't be an issue of the connection periodically timing out and getting lag from reauthenticating. I know a good amount about most computer issues, but I'm an admitted n00b when it comes to networking, so I didn't understand a lot of the acronyms and technical responses to some of the other peoples' complaints that I found on google. Any thoughts on other things I should try?

1. Are you using wireless?
2. Is anyone on your network using BitTorrent?
3. Is any machine set up for DMZ on your network?
4. Is there any port forwarding enabled?

i have the same router and it does the same gays hit. at times though mine completely stops working and has to be reset as well.

Have the same router only with wireless and just recently (read: last two/three weeks) has it started acting up for me. Have gone for months without any problems and now about once a week it will "crash" in the middle of a game or something and the only thing I have been able to fix it with is to reset it.

I am not too worried about it because I am about to move and my brother won't need the wireless connection.

^^ actually i have that one and my parents have the wired, both do it. i thought i had tried updating the firmware and it didnt do jack, but ill try it again for the hell of it (plus SR said he did that already)

My netgear router was doing that at one point, couldn't ever figure out why. I then noticed it was kinda hot, so i thought maybe it was overheating. I stuck it in front of an AC vent and never had another problem with it. You might want to give that a try.

I have updated the firmware. No wireless, no BitTorrent (I use Waste, but typically turn it off if I'm playing games). Port forwarding is set up correctly for WoW. Only two machines on the network, my own desktop and my wife's laptop, so no DMZ.

This can happen sometimes if one of the computers on the network has a virus/trojan. Also, make sure no other computer has internet sharing turned on.

It basically boils down to one of the computers sending/receiving more packets than the router's control memory could handle.

^ it does like to crash whenever my sister or gf goes near myspace. gotta love pages with 100 pictures, a song playing, and a video going all at the same time.
