I think mine was at least valid for a couple reasons. One, the Indians are in the same division and their late surge nearly caught the Sox last season after falling way behind early in the season. Also the Indians have been in a rebuilding phase for a couple of years, but now they seem to have emerged with a team that is both young and talented, and after last season's effort coming up just short, its likely they are a bit hungry as well.

it doesnt matter if the Mets got the NL All-Star team, which they practically did, they still wont win the division and have to fight hard for the wild card. Chemistry is everything, something that the Metros wont have

The White Sox won't win because their offense is still not that impressive. If they had a legit top 10 hitter like ManRam or Pujols or Cabrera, etc then I would say they've got a great team (the pitching staff is awesome). Konerko is a good power hitter, but guys like Dye, Podsednik, Taguchi, Uribe, AJ, etc are all good ball players, but are inconsistent and don't strike fear into any pitchers. If they all get hot at the same time like last year, then I guess they could win it again.

Mackoviak > Blum, Perez

Better #3/#4 amongst AL teams: Boston (if they keep Ramirez), NYY (maybe, if Sheffield outhits Thome), none in the AL Central. Others?
Better starting pitching rotation in the MLB: None, no matter who they might deal in the offseason. Beurhle, Garcia, Contreras and Garland could all be a legitimate #1/#2 in any other rotation.
Better relief pithcing in the AL: I'm not too knowledgeable about RP but I do know Jenks is still unproven as a closer (WS BS was brutal). I do think he could develop to an above average closer, very easily too. I think that Aneheim has probably the best RP staff in baseball.

As far as the White Sox bullpen is essentially the same, but now with McCarthy (if a SP doesn't get trade) in Vizcaino's place. Oh yeah, there's no Damaso Marte, so the bullpen might actually be better than last year, but like I said before, still not the best. Maybe 3rd in the AL, 7th in MLB.

Cleveland is apt to lose Millwood to free agency and I don't know what Wickman plans to do. Their setup man is gone (Howry->Cubs). Twins/KC/Detroit have nothing going for them, really. It's very much Chicago's division to lose, right now.

i think its almost a wash. duque was injured alot but he was excellent in relief in the playoffs.

There is no such thing as a wire to wire champ. You were the wire to wire division leader. If you mean by overall record, the Cardinals won more games than the White Sox. The offense for the White Sox is not impressive. There was one player with an OPS greater than 900 (Konerko 909) and two greater than 800 (Konerko and Dye 845). No one else was above 800. Leading the league in homers is a bit deceiving because their park is one of the top five hitters stadiums in the league based on slugging percentages (not as bad as Coors, but right there with the Reds and Rangers, etc.)

Overall the Sox lineup is not that great. In the postseason certain guys got hot (Crede, AJ, Podsednik, etc) and the pitching was amazing and that led to the title. I am not trying to discredit what they accomplished, but I don't think the Sox will repeat as WS champs this year. I would not even put money on them to win their division because of the Indians stacked lineup and solid young pitching.

I think it was just their lucky year.. pitching was consistent all year, won alot of one run games -- I think they're making the same mistake Boston did.. making a bunch of roster changes when they just won the World Series. True, alot of their moves were upgrades but Boston's seemed that way as well -- Renteria over Cabrera, a younger Clement over Lowe, got rid of an aging seemingly declining Pedro -- but I think messing with chemistry like that really affects a team.

I also think they're really going to miss Garland and Vasquez isn't built for the AL but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Yes, I prefer Vazquez over El Duque.

1) El Duque was flat out horrible the last two months or so.
2) No one knows how old Hernandez is, but he's old. Vazquez is only 28 and is a much better long-term option.
3) Vazquez is essentially locked into the White Sox for a while, as I beleive he loses his free agency for three years by invoking his trade clause. If he sucks, the White sox will non-tender him. Otherwise he accepts arbitration or is out of a job.
4) The White Sox aren't done yet and can now safely trade a SP without worrying about relying on El Duque.
