I disagree with not being able to call people "black" or "white", but I agree with generally not considering the race of a person, other than a description. We would be better off if there were no black history month, or BET, and instead those things were integrated in to other things (BET could just change it's name to hip-hop TV or something).

I think the same thing can be seen with some women in regard to women's rights.

At first equality (that we now recognize as obvious) was not recognized so what seems like special rights and attention was merited to balance things out.

Eventually most of society comes around, and what was special before seems limiting now.

I think things like this should be viewed as historical monuments to the need not to backslide, and to look out for new forms of inequality that most of society might accept that merits this special attention for a while, rather than as limiting factors.

Trust me if I was a closet racist I wouldn't work in Northeast NC where 85% of my customers are minorities and I work with a predominantly African-American staff. If I was racist I'd work in Raleigh or somewhere where I wouldn't have to see and deal with "TEH NEGROES" or at least, nearly as many of them.

I'm very comfortable around african-americans and though I might not fit in as great as some others do, I get along with almost all quite well. I've only had one or two use racial epithets on me and thats because they tried to throw the race card up when they owed money ("Do you only treat black people like this calling them everyday?" "No sir I only treat people like this who owe me money!" "Then fuck you cracker") or something like that. They are just mad and I don't hold it against them.

And Kay, sorry if that was a bad analogy. I wasn't necessarily equating the NAACP with the Klan in terms of their actions. It would have been better if I had compared those groups to the likes of the Black Panthers, or the NAACP against a white political lobby group.

I do think its interesting though that agreement about something on here with somebody of color that does not stand in the majority of the NAACP or other minority groups is instantly a closet racist. Yet I have a feeling sometimes that the folks that talk about it the most vehemently are the ones that feel they have the most to prove that they aren't racists. How many of the percentages of your friends in the predominantly white urban centers like Raleigh are of color or minorities? I guess I personally don't feel racism given or received in most of my day to day activities, even though I'm literally the minority in my area and workplace. I base my decisions about folks on their actions; fucking pieces of shit that get delinquint and give you shit come in all ages, races, and sexes. The one I have had a problem this week with was actually a middle aged white lady who was in there with her latino husband.

It is interesting to note that the only one who has used the "N" word and the ones who are shouting "OMG closet RACISM!" are the ones whose political idealogy is dependent on keeping blacks poor and uneducated. People like Jesse Jackson get their scraps from the Democratic Party's table in exchange for keeping black people on the thought plantation. Heaven forbid if one of 'em should escape, they'll be labelled as uncle toms and sellouts in no time if they dare to put an "R" as their political affiliation.

Programs and quotas are still being perpetuated because certain people still think that blacks are inferior to white people and therefore cannot make it on their own. It shouldn't be any surprise that the most lily white urban areas in this country are also the most liberal.

Point taken and I appreciate the fact that you were willing to go back and correct yourself. I think misunderstandings about the NAACP are common....people hear the phrase "colored people" and immediately get all defensive, instead of doing research into what the NAACP actually does and who is involved (there are, for example, a fare number of white people involved with the NAACP).
