Maybe I am displaying a material amount of naivety by asking the following:
Are there other politicians as well meaning and concientous as this guy?
Plz inform me as to who they are and why you see them as such.
Thanks. 12/16/2005 9:44:09 AM |

i'd like to think so.....possibly barack obama? he hasn't been around as long so i don't know as much about him, but he seems like a sincere guy.
of course, they all can be a little bit sneaky and misleading sometimes. 12/16/2005 8:52:36 PM |

I read one of his books a while back. I'm really impressed with the guy.

Yeah, I mean, I don't agree with his politics entirely, but I feel that he is a genuine, real person. Maybe that's wrong. But that's my perception since I first heard of him around 1999 or 2000. 12/16/2005 9:44:18 PM |

McCain may be genuine. But I think he's horribly wrong. After the torture thing that he drafted up, it is now illegal to put foreign prisoners under the same treatment that American passengers get on commercial airliners. No "degrading" acts, so says McCain. Well that's open to interpretation. The last time I was screened at the airport, the guy took me to the side and literally felt everything that I had on my body. Yes, he touched my balls. Personally, that's degrading, but I didn't complain because I understand why they're doing it.
Unfortunately for our country, now our GI's can't do the same thing to Al-Qaeda. It's unfortunate that he wants to extend CONSTITUTIONAL protections to ENEMY COMBATANTS... it's unbelievable. 12/16/2005 10:10:19 PM |

Theres a difference between being feely searched by airport security and being chained naked in the dark without a potty. 12/16/2005 11:02:52 PM |

Yes there is a difference and that's what senator mccain doesn't understand. He's made a feely search illegal.
And..

Sure. Probably. Maybe. Hopefully? If we're letting them all go... I sure as hell hope you're right. I'd hate to be the marine who gets shot by one of these SOBs because senators on Capitol Hill think they know more than the generals in the field.
Oh my! They don't have a bathroom! My goodness!
Most of these fuckers don't even have bathrooms in their houses. They wipe their asses with their hands.
Yes, not giving them a potty sure is torture.

Anything deemed "degrading" which is open to so many interpretations, it's ridiculous.
Yes, a feely search could be degrading... especially if performed by a female GI. 12/16/2005 11:26:47 PM |

Are you trolling or retarded?
Do you know what judges are for? Do you know what they do? Do you know how the fucking American justice system works? Jesus Christ. You're a fucking idiot. Let me say this again. YOU. ARE. A. FUCKING. IDIOT. 12/16/2005 11:30:54 PM |

*yawn*
And yet you still don't refute the point. Ad hominem attacks are fantastic when you don't have anything to come back with.
Here's the thing. So there's an incident where an enemy combatant is crying "degrading" treatment by an American gi. This combatant could have info that we need to prevent a roadside bomb. But because the American Justice System has to opine on this subject, it could take days, then the roadside bomb is carried out, all because "degrading" was under question.
Yes, I know how the American Justice System works. It's slow as hell (ask Tookie). And when you're dealing with gathering intelligence in the field, you don't have the luxury of time. Senator McCain bought time for the enemy here, and I'm not trolling.

He was very close to getting nominated in '96, and that was against an opponent who everybody thought was just gonna sweep through without a challenge. Bush had raised several hundred million dollars more than McCain and had a lot more support from the establishment, but McCain made it a damn close race.
Since then he has made enemies with some party loyalists, but in doing so has won a lot of respect from both sides of the aisle.
He would easily win the nomination in '08. 12/18/2005 10:14:06 PM |

Whether or not you agree with his stances, I think Bernie Sanders would fit into this category. He supports a lot of politically unpopular things because he thinks they're right. He's also willing to stand up against the democratic party in a similar way that McCain will stand against the republican party if he thinks it's the right thing to do.12/19/2005 1:31:48 PM |

Barack Obama is definately like McCain as far as intentions and integrity are concerned. Really you could argue any moderate, both Dem or Rep, are probably the ones like McCain.
