heavy and slow, even when chipped. guys like to act like it's sports oriented, but it's clearly not.

haha, naa, but its a fun car, corners well, the quattro is even better, sport drive makes it fun and the techtronic is fun

other than that, its a quality car, no probs in the first 12k

PS: automatics are for girls

I don't see how 250 horses and 280 torque is slow, but ok.

They're not fast but quattro makes them fun to drive - excellent handling, especially with some nice tires and stiffer shocks.

The 02 brings the option of the CVT, which is an excellent transmission apart from it only being paired to front wheel drive.

My choice would be the 1.8t quattro 5 speed. Great handling, good gas milage, enough power for everyday driving, brilliant interior build quality.

For under 19k... that's a pretty broad generalization.

Assuming you need 4 doors and want a manual transmission:

1) If you don't like to work on your cars: Off lease Acura TSX, the new Jetta 2.0t, or a Mazda 6, you could probably even find a current generation SAAB 9-3.

2) If you can actually work on cars: This is an endless list, some people are bound to say an E36 M3, some will say WRX, so on...

tkeaton brings up a good point though - following 2) above - there are at least a few people I know that have both a beater car and then some completely impractical fun car, myself included: an under $2k volvo turbo wagon, and a fair condition Porsche 944 as the project - all for way less than even half your $19k figure.

never implied i knew everything about em either, simply stating a fact

but in my experience, while yes the audis arent the lightest cars, they do have the later 180hp 1.8t engine and the quattro makes for one helluva nice launch you can def feel in the corners. combine that with a chip and it just gets better from there.

again, im no expert on this matter either so you might be better off checking out ncaudi.org and perusing the forums there, that would give you a much better idea of what you would be dealing with than i or the majority of ppl in here would be able to.
