not a thread about how cool it is, well kind of, but not related to the other thread about it

http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/

the guy has some neat scripts running and i know nothing about java, except for how to tinker with something to get it to work for me

can somebody explain how:
the selective pointer that tells you where you are on the image map and if it has something in it or not works?
the zoom script works?

i think i can see some neat applications for this kind of thing and want to play around with it (neighborhood pages for a real estate info guide), but
1. i don't want to rip off his stuff
2. i can't build one from scratch

anybody want to take a stab at pointing out what's happening so i can start learning and build my own OR do you know of somewhere that i can dig up something that will do it that i'm allowed to use (i've used some stuff from hotscripts before, but i can't track down anything that does these particular functions)

thanks for the help

Just a big fucking image map with area tags. Then he runs onmouse over/out functions in combination with an onmousemove event.

So if its not over a defined area in the imagemap, the title isnt set, so it shows "pixels available". If its over a defined imagemap area, the title is set in the onmouseover, and its taken so it shows the imagemap area title.

There's a second image, thats double the size, in a hidden layer. Clicking zoom unhides the layer, crops the image and moves it inline with the original imagemap. Super duper simple to replicate.

to be clear, the original site isn't lame - the dude's raked in almost $900k and worldwide news coverage. Most of the imitations are lame, however.

damn, this guy really has some good ideas. He's auctioning off the last 1000 pixels on eBay. Those would normally give him just 1000 more $ to add to his current total of $999,000, but he's sure to get much more than $1/pixel now
