I need to learn about welding (types of welds, ways to weld)
I myself am not going to be welding, but need an understanding of welding for a particular issue I am working on @ work
Please post pictures to help explain things too....
Hopefully others will be able to learn from this too. 12/20/2005 9:45:08 AM |

Try to find a PDF of the US Army Welding manual.
Look on ESAB, Miller, Lincoln, and Hobart websites. The hobart one has a forum. 12/20/2005 10:20:44 AM |

best thing you can do is get one of those masks that auto darken... that way there isnt' that one sec before the weld starts that you're just sorta guessing 12/20/2005 1:02:43 PM |

plenty of books/manual in the library and at most mechanical and automotive supply houses too. you have so many better outlets for info than tww. that's like posting in here about how to rebuild a motor. 12/20/2005 4:39:23 PM |

Sleeves are for no-sunburn-no-slag-popping queerboys.
Of course, if you spend your whole day welding, then it's stupid NOT to wear sleeves.
But an hour here, an hour there...who needs sleeves? Unless of course, it's cold as hell in your shop like it is in mine. 12/20/2005 4:57:18 PM |

its a "particular issue" , so why waste his time explaining how to weld sheet metal when he might be affixing aluminum square tube together?
no one has offered any help thus far, so some clarification might move people that know what they're doing in the right direction
