So i'm shopping for prescription glasses and i'm trying to find the best place. What is your opinion of who is good selection/price wise.
I've found the best prices at Sam's Club, selection is sub-par though. Good selection at Lens Crafters, price is a bit high. Anyone have anything to add to that?
(BTW has anyone heard of getting 30% off at Lens Crafters if you have AAA?) Also, does anyone have a Lens Crafters coupon they don't need?
Thanks. 12/20/2005 10:29:51 AM |

Avoid Eye Care Associates on Glenwood. They have a nice selection of frames, but their service sucks balls.
I actually bought a pair of frames there one time when I couldn't find anything else I wanted and took them to Lens Crafters for lenses.
Also, if you don't have to get them immediately you can find what you want (make sure to note the size) and get them on eBay sometimes. When my last frames broke I found them brand new on eBay for $80 shipped...I paid over $200 for the first frames. I think they were Nauticas. 12/20/2005 10:52:37 AM |

I wouldn't use anything like Sam's Club or BJ's. Two years ago I lost my fabulous sunglasses that my insurance paid for, so I had to cover new ones on my own. I went to BJ's and got a pair of sunglasses. I had to send the first pair back because the lenses were so distorted, it was making me dizzy. The second pair was better but there was still a line of distortion.
When I lived in NC, I went to Eye Care Associates on Six Forks Rd. The doctors are great, but their service in the Optical Shop is a little weak. Because of my dad's insurance at the time, you'd have to send off your frames to get the glasses and that took a week. That was really annoying.
Your best bet is to go to Lens Crafters. I have gotten a few pairs from there and the quality of the service and the lenses is always good. Plus they have coupons fairly regularly. Also, they cut you deals if you use the optometrist next door. I did that where I live now and got a fancy pair of sunglasses drastically reduced because they gave me a discount for getting my eye exam next door.

I agree, selection is sub-par but price and service is excellent. You may want to try checking around at various local Sam's Clubs and seeing if they carry different frames - I know both the one on S. Saunders and the one on Capital Blvd. have optical shops.
I take it that you don't have vision insurance (correct me if I'm wrong) - Lens Crafters typically puts a $75 off coupon on the Sunday coupon ads (which won't be printed in this weekend's N&O due to the holiday). You can also print one online: http://www.lenscrafters.com/coupons/Cu_coupons.cfm

fuck lenscrafters.
well not all the time, but a majority of the time they suck balls.
if you want a decent deal, just call a manager over and ask for a larger discount than the "associates" are willing to give. they try to act like it's a big deal, but fuck them, it's your money. they know how much money they are losing to wal-mart and the like. it's not like their frames are special.
