That is soo true.
I must wonder, however, with nearly every vehicle in Europe using a diesel engine surely there is a market in place to distribute restaurant grease, right?
Has anyone here been to Europe and actually seen this market in action?
If not, I wonder why not... 12/20/2005 11:25:38 AM |

well, regular diesel engines can't run on grease without modification. they can run on biodiesel, but that requires modifying the grease itself. There is alot of biodiesel in europe, though. 12/20/2005 11:27:21 AM |

Isn't biodiesel still having problems with cold temperatures though? I remember that it was a big hurdle for the technology since it had even less tolerance for the cold versus diesel and gasoline. 12/20/2005 1:20:27 PM |

That's a problem with homemade biodiesel. Most of the stuff you get out of the pump is treated with stuff to prevent that, though. I think. 12/20/2005 1:22:52 PM |

Umm, they have. My Tahoe is a flex fuel engine but there are only 2 areas in NC, last I checked, that had E85 fueling stations (Shelby and I think Charlotte)12/21/2005 11:02:06 PM |

it not so much a right. the restaurants have to pay for disposal. it becomes beneficial for both the restaurant (less/no disposal fee) and the "hippie" (free fuel)
and the only "modifications" needed to run WVO are a separate heated tank and lines, and a switching mechanism to go from diesel to oil (the engine needs to be warmed up wby running diesel)12/22/2005 11:38:09 AM |
