I'm registered for 15 hours, one of which I'm #1 on the waitlist, and if I get into it I will need to drop a class because I'm working and don't want to take more than 12 hours.
BUS 305 - LEGAL & REG ENVIR - (Huggard) BUS 330 - HR - (Davis) HI 207 - Ancient History - (Parker) PHI 221 - CONTEMP MORAL ISSU - (Hettche) STS 322 - TECH CATASTROPHIES - (Earnshaw)
HI 207 is the one I'm waitlisted on. Of the other four, I need to pick one to drop if I get into HI 207.
BUS 305 ... probably won't drop that one BUS 330 ... I hear Davis is evil, but somewhat less evil in DE. It's take her in DE now, or take a chance she's my only option when I get back. PHI 221 ... DE Philosophy? Not sure bout dat STS 322 ... it's a 300-level class, and I'm sure it required some non-menial work, so it's probably the hardest of these 4
What do you think? 12/20/2005 11:03:15 AM |

I took 221 this semester. Thought it was alright online. Hettche is a pretty easy going professor. His paper grading isn't bad. The quizzes are mostly easy. Lectures are short. Couple of videos to watch. So, I would recommend not dropping it. It won't free up enough time to warrant it. 12/20/2005 11:39:59 AM |

Whatever you do: DO NOT DROP PHI 221 and STS 322 if you want easy A's.
I'd probably drop 330 and try to take it in-class w/ Gilley. Davis is a horrific instructor and I can't imagine the online version being magically better.

i had phi 221 back when it was called phi 321 with a diff professor. i think it may have been my first phi class during my first summer here. i've now applied to several grad schools for philosophy. never had hettche, but the class was worth while. I've also had hi 207... done several ancient history classes to get more insight into ancient philosophy's context. I really enjoyed that class. Parker is a great professor. Alot of history professors use parker as the standard for what a good history professor is. They like pointing out he is a colleague of theirs.
At ncsu history classes have overheads and books they show pictures from for ancient history, at unc they have from their desk terminal electronically controlled windows, overhead camera, light settings, double slide show projecters, and lots of other nice stuff such as hardwood floors... but i've still had unc history professors rate themself against parker.
My fav phi class was phi 300, ancient philosophy. Its usually taught in the spring I believe with Jesseph. Don't know about much about those other 2 classes you mentioned. But the Phi & Hi ones were ones I enjoyed.

STS322 = easiest class ever!
Earnshaw is really laid back, and the class is a guarenteed A if you remotely pay attention. 12/25/2005 2:02:02 AM |

Had Earnshaw in another class and he is a pretty cool guy. Laid back like was previously mentioned.
