South Florida (6-5) vs. North Carolina State (6-5)
Where: Bank of America Stadium (cap. 73,367), Charlotte
When: Dec. 31
TV: ESPN2
Payout: $750,000
Fun facts: This is South Florida's first bowl game in nine years of playing Division I-A football. "We're bowl eligible with six wins. No one in the country thought we'd be this far," offensive coordinator Rod Smith said ... Bulls coach Jim Leavitt got his contract extended to 2012 ... The marketing motto for this game ought to be: "I'm not going to pay a lot for this bowl ticket."

N.C. State was fearful of getting sent to Boise instead. Now the team can be home for Christmas AND go to a bowl game.

[and here is the dreaded part...the part where amato opens his mouth]

"There's a lot of advantages for that," coach Chuck Amato said. "It's hard to compete with Santa Claus, it really is. I don't care how old you are or where you're from. It's a family thing and a great time of the year."

in a sports magazine i read prior to getting my haircut, our bowl is ranked 2nd to last, with the comment "whats harder to come by, points or reasons to watch?".

well..amato does refrain from using the lil nerve connecting his brain to his mouth...

here is his take on TA in 2002...clairvoyance at its best(especially the last 2 lines)

On signing Albemarle running back T.A. McLendon: "I think he's got all the tools. You hate to put pressure on the young man, but anybody that scores the number of touchdowns he has is pretty good. What did he score, 170 touchdowns in his career? And I bet you in the games he played, he didn't play more than two-thirds of them. I don't care what class you play in. Herschel Walker didn't play in the largest classification out of the state of Georgia. I don't mean to be making any comparisons to him, but [T.A.] is so talented. He's big, he's strong and he's fast. And you talk about character. He's done everything to make himself academically eligible. He's got great work ethic. That's all we can ask of him."
