I've decided to keep this car and fix it...I have a spare parts car with just about everything I need. I only need to go mix a quart of white paint.

The teardown and cleanup starts tonight. I pulled 'er home last night with a friend's rollback (he pulled 'er from the accident scene; on Clayton PD rotation), and she sits in the driveway looking pretty sad.

I've decided to go ahead and build the SCCA ITA car I've always wanted. This might not turn out to be a winner (few 1st gen Tegs are), but it's a good track car and fun to drive. Bodywork first, then suspension (27mm torsion bars up front, coilovers in back, whatever good deals on shocks I can find, maybe different rear swaybar setup), then cage.

Then all the other nitpicky shit. Tires, wheels (tho I may just start with stock alloys), exhaust, blueprinted engine. I'm kind of pumped.

What about rebuilding the Z?

You know, installing my bushings will help bankroll this newfound money pit...

Yeah, the Z is gonna have to wait. The Teg is closer to being roadworthy.

And yep, that bushing job will help tremendously. How's next week looking?

i think it's a good idea. was wondering why u were trying to get a new car when you just had a lil fender bender and your very mechanically inclined. my 91 teg got more messed up than that when my friend rolled over it with his avalon.

It's called economics of time. To put it bluntly, I don't have a whole lot of extra time. Opportunity cost here...do I save an assload of money and just piece my car back together, but take an assload of my time (which can be spent earning money) to do it? And tie up the garage to boot?

I'm still left with a car with a NASTY interior and various things held together with baling wire. I'm still left with 250k+ on the odometer, too. Is it really worth fixing up AGAIN, or would it just be better to go ahead and buy something that I don't have to work on, that's comfortable for me to ride in and doesn't stink and make lots of noise, and that I can take a date out in if I do so get the notion?

Now, the killer solution...buy something else to drive, and gut this baby in the meantime. I can work on it when I have the time, and I can drive it out of the garage when I need to put something else in there. The plus? Well, I can have a good track car again, only this time something that I can compete in. I can gut the interior, thus saving the grief of trying to make it presentable for other folks (namely the female persuasion) to ride in. And I don't have to get rid of her...I like this car too much. The negative? Yet another money pit, as we all know race cars are. Something else taking up space in the garage and the driveway. Yet another hobby when I already have too many.

yeah dude you can't take girls out in a POS. I mean, it doesn't have to be flashy necessarily... but they really notice if your ride is trashed. It makes them think you are a slob.

pfft i've taken girls out in pos's before means absolutely nothing. just that you dont put ur priorities in what you drive it doesnt really matter as long as it runs. im kind of happy when girls dont mind that im taking them out in a pos. it shows their true character when they are out to get to know you and not just for ur money. oh im gonna cry now

Me too. I'll never get rid of the '79 Malibu, and despite having only had the Lincoln for a little over a year, I rather doubt I'll be getting rid of it anytime soon.

^^exactly. if a girl can't get some amusement or at least tolerate riding around in what most people would conceive to be a hunk of shit (while i'm driving the piss out of it too i might add), she's not the one for me.

^Very good point.

However, though she might not be the one for me, she might be the one to gimme some booty for now.

Let me clarify. I think girls mind more if the car smells bad inside and has rotting trash everywhere.
