[old] there's also a test track under that building. its a shame they spent all that money building that facility and no one buys the cars 12/22/2005 1:00:01 AM |

people do buy the cars. they aren't pushing them as much in the U.S. though. european sales are right on target.
they will stop importing the cars here in Feb 2006.12/22/2005 2:33:16 AM |

It's "cool" but also terribly inefficient. They're spending quite a bit of money to try to impose the image of a "hand built" car, however the thing is anything but. Very nice facility... On the other hand the cars could be significantly cheaper.
I suppose in the end they did feel that it was important to move the VW image upmarket too, if they want to compete in the wunderwagen category with the high end Benzes and BMWs. Ahmet 12/22/2005 4:20:53 AM |

^^^^ ok so you were wrong in the audi thread and now here, just stick to your non running ricer)or whatever the hell is wrong with that car) and leave the german cars to someone else. 12/22/2005 7:34:05 AM |

Unless you are deeply involved with VW planning department, I fail to see on what premises can you conclude they are terribly inefficient. If efficiency is #of cars made per given day, then yes any GM facility can be considered more efficient, but they are not making grand ams12/22/2005 10:04:39 AM |

^^^^^^ look fanboy, the cars aren't selling here, that's why they aren't coming back after 06. 1.8t quattros are slow and heavy. japanese != ricer. did I mention you're a fag, and a noob to boot. just shut the fuck up already.

It doesn't seem like a stretch to conclude that a factory which has every part shipped for final assembly, just to have the cars shipped back, any factory that places emphasis on not leaking a drop of any fluid, or any fluid vapors during assembly, any factory where the floors are maple, and the building is made out of glass... Well it's easy to conclude efficiency was not exactly a priority. Infact, just the fact that the factory has a restaurant and a lobby area that can (and has) function as an opera house, well, it's not "efficient" use of "factory" resources, if a factory is meant to produce cars. This particular factory did not have that as a goal, instead it had the upmarket image, and at THAT, it doesn't seem so inefficient, this I admit. Ahmet12/22/2005 4:39:03 PM |

so basically, what you are saying, is that you really have no idea 12/22/2005 5:40:39 PM |
Ahmet All American 4279 Posts user info edit post |
No, not at all. Edit: as in that's not what I'm saying at all. It should be painfully obvious to anybody vaguely familiar with manufacturing in general, why this factory is without a doubt inefficent -at manufacturing cars, if we're looking at investment/car made. Ahmet

you need to look at the overall picture and stop thinking like an engineer image is very important here 12/22/2005 7:59:18 PM |

so not only do I see your point, but I agree with it. For image purposes, I'm sure it's worked better for them. I mean, the thing IS cool, w/out a doubt. Ahmet12/22/2005 8:26:27 PM |

i've been there when i was in Dresden last month...its pretty neat looking. pretty much right in the downtown area. Funny thing about Dresden, it was almost completely underwater a few years back after they pulled a new orleans and had their levy's(sp?) break 12/23/2005 12:49:38 PM |

^ yeah awesome city though, have you been there at night? the way they light all those old buildings up along the river is incredible. we stopped there for a night on our way to the ski lodge. really sucks in the winter though, -12 degrees in the middle of the day 12/23/2005 6:05:38 PM |

^yeah, my brothers wife's sister actually goes to school and works in Dresden. Its about an hour from where my bro lives....did the city tour on the double decker. The opera house looks hot at night!
when i was in leipzig 2 weeks ago i froze my ass off....and it sucks cause it gets dark around 4:30ish....makes you tired early in the night.
