I've read a lot of good reviews. Apparently Spielberg managed to turn this into a powerful, but fairly unbiased film, which I wouldnt have expected after Schindler's List.
Definitely going to see it when it hits theaters. Thoughts? 12/22/2005 2:21:19 PM |

I saw it as a pre-release to the Jewish public in Raleigh this past Wednesday and it started out great. I think the ending was a little weak and it could have been about 30 minutes less in length. Overall, pretty good and according to what I've read, is historically accurate. I would recommend it.

Can't wait to see this. Wish more of these sort of subjects were made into movies instead of the usual focus on major conflicts and such. 12/25/2005 12:49:59 AM |

Now, Munich received some harsh criticism before it was even released because some people didn’t agree with its political stance. Those people are idiots. Speilberg is bold for not catering to them and their stupid ideology. I read some reviews that called the movie “simplistic.” Again, idiots. I think it was actually quite the opposite, perfectly layered in its complexity.
This movie was made very quickly, and honestly, the level of detail in it was astounding, even for a movie that was made in a normal timeframe. Attention to detail…that’s what separates the good from the great.
The deal with Munich is that you won’t come away from it with any clear-cut answers. Its ending is a bit ambiguous, not like Syriana (”WTF just happened!?”), but you will have to think, boys and girls. Don’t go see it drunk or anything.
You know what…I’m just going to cut the crap and say it: this is the best movie of the 2005. I mean, I haven’t seen every movie that’s come out this year…but I did see Good Night and Good Luck, and it’s way better than that! I haven’t seen Brokeback Mountain yet, since I live in a state full of homophobes terrified of releasing their latent gay-ness, but I think Munich is the best film I’ve watched so far. Go see it! " |

I saw it last night, and that last scene dropped my opinion of the film a few notches. There were other ways his preoccupation with what had occurred could have been conveyed. It was weird and unnecessary, in my opinion. Still quite good overall, though. Definitely made effective use of surround sound.1/7/2006 11:51:40 AM |

While the Israeli government doesn't deny killing all sorts of people in response to the Munich shit, they do claim to not know what the fuck the real guy the main character is based on is talking about. Kind of reminds me of Chuck Barris in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Bear in mind I've done nothing more than some cursory googling and wikiing, but that seems to pretty much be the case.

I completely agree that to criticise the stance of the movie without seeing it. But to call anybody who disagrees with the stance of the movie, which IS, by the way, INCREDIBLY one sided (one diatribe from another terrorist is hardly decent coverage), "idiots" with a "stupid ideology" is, for lack of better words, both idiotic, stupid, and ridiculously ideological. If Munich is your idea of complex, then heaven help you if you ever try to follow something in the real world.

What did you not understand about the ending of Syriana?
Quote : | "I haven’t seen Brokeback Mountain yet, since I live in a state full of homophobes terrified of releasing their latent gay-ness" |
Brokeback Mountain's wide release date was pushed back all of two or three weeks, and North Carolina's stance of gays had nothing to do with it.

Munich and Syriana are actually -good- movies, though. Also, with Mr. Pibb and Red Vines you can make ANY feature crazy delicious.

Saw it last night. Liked it...but more because I'm interested in history and politics than because I agree with what it was saying.
I mean, I don't disagree with every premise of the movie by any means, but the effort it makes to humanize murderous terrorists didn't get anywhere with me. I don't think I would've had a bit of trouble wasting those dudes. In fact, it looked like a pretty good time, to me.
I don't really totally agree with what the movie says about our foreign policy (or that of Israel's, for that matter). Yeah, we definitely don't do everything right (and Israel SURE as hell doesn't). Yeah, I think that Israel should meet the Palestinians somewhere in the middle--but ONLY when the Palestinians refrain from terror tactics.
Again, though, I liked the movie. The ending was kind of ambiguous, but I don't see what was boring about it. If you found it boring, it wasn't the fault of the movie. It's just that you aren't the person that sort of movie appeals to. 1/22/2006 8:37:07 PM |
