Pretty much sums it up. If you were going out to buy one right now, which would you get and why? And keep in mind a couple of facts, the person using this is NOT tech savvy (which means it is clearly not me! ). Also, I would be loading the unit up with about 3000 songs from my comp and then it will be used on their computer, I've never done this and don't want to risk deleting all the tracks when it syncs to the new computer. Guy wants to stay around 30-40GB in size. any advice?

well ipods cant transfer songs unless you turn the harddrive function and simply use it to store the songs (not listen to)...on the otherhand iPod is the most ergonomic/user friendly

so here is a question, if I had a brand new ipod, set it up to act as a harddrive initially, loaded it up, took it to the other computer, downloaded all the songs onto the other computer, then switched the ipod back to normal mode, could it then be synced up with itunes and have all of that music loaded up like normal?

^^^those programs also have the chance of crashing your ipod, and they void your warranty(friend had one and did that and somehow the knew what he did) so it should be used as a last resort only

well, this is only a one-time thing. basically once the music is moved the first time, it will never be done that way again. So if I can move it from comp to comp with the ipod set to manual (or HDD mode) then I am good.

Your friend is a fucking idiot then.

You realize you can physically Copy and Paste the music from your IPod to your PC without iTunes right?

Plug it in, copy to new folder, import with itunes and you have all your music.
