My sister bought a CD recently and found out she can't put it on her ipod. The CD only allows you to record it WMA protected (which doesn't work on the ipod). If she wants to put the music on her ipod, she have to buy the music again from itunes which is crap. It was a Sony CD.

It actually says about the protected WMA on the cover, but most people don't read every bit og fine print on the cover before they buy it. Now we have to.

I'm glad I don't use an ipod, but that's crap for people who do. I'll never buy a Sony CD again, even if I love the artist.

I had a Sony CD that said that, itunes still ripped it just fine. I can't remember if it was on my Mac or PC.

Tell her to attempt to rip it anyway.

Try ripping it from a Mac or a Linux OS.

She could try copying it to a CD-R and burning that. There are also various programs that will take tracks from a CD and convert them to MP3. She could do that and just manually import the MP3s to her iTunes library. I thought that WMA files were converted by iTunes to a supported format, but I suppose there is a difference between WMA and WMA protected.

yea WMA protected requires a license and has certain restrictions based on the license. I bought music from Rhapsody once, and they give you a protected realplayer file that you cannot transfer to your portable music player unless you burn it on a CD and rip it from there.

Stupid non consumer friendly companies.

I haven't bought one of these CDs yet ... how all does the CD "force" you to rip it to WMA? Can you not disable autoplay and then go about your business?
