"In 2003 and 2004, supporters of the war in Iraq pointed to high approval ratings in the Military Times Poll as a signal that military members were behind President Bush's the president's policy." Of the poll respondents, all active duty, about half had served in Iraq or Afghanistan. Only 13% called themselves Democrats. The poll was taken from about mid-November to mid-December, with 1,215 respondents. Other findings: • Positive feelings about Congress, civilian and uniformed Pentagon leaders and the media all fell. • Opposition to the draft fell slightly, from 75 percent last year to 68 percent this year. • Nearly two-thirds said the military is stretched too thin to be effective, though that figure is down substantially from two years ago."

My sister is a Lt. at Schofield Barracks and I went to lunch with her and some of her soldiers. THe only soldier who supported Bush was an older Sgt. who's family was very wealthy...1 out of about 20 isn't saying much for the Prez

to throw some anecdotal evidence on the fire.....
I have a friend who just returned from Iraq last week after his 2nd tour. Before, during and after the 1st time he was over there he supported the war and Bush, but during this 2nd tour he came to realize that he no longer believed in the cause nor the way the war is being conducted.

so there's at least one out of your million that have lose support.

I found two of these statements funny. First, I sincerely think the guy who conducted a poll with his sister at lunch has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.

Secondly, I saw this same piece in Army Times, with an article right underneath it that had to do with "mission approval ratings" being high. But, of course, pryderi with his tunner vision wouldn't bother reading that. (Actually I'd be surprised if he read anything beyond the title half the time)

But of course, Maverick with his dishonesty neglected to post that although "mission approval ratings" remain high, those also fell by 12% between 2004 and 2005.

This is significant when soldiers doubt their own mission, and don't approve of their own commander-in-chief.

That's why you always read any contract you sign, espeicialy one that hands your ass over to the government. It's not too much to ask people to actualy read the 3 pages of the enlistment contract is it?

Even my own powers of recollection can be flawed.

These ratings also remain relatively constant with the ratings from 2003. (There was a spike upwards in '04, then back to the '03 level).

And of course, on the upside as well, Rotary-Wing accidents are going down significantly, too, even as more and more aircraft fly increasingly more flight hours. I liked that article too.
