Our domain controller (active directory) is a Windows 2000 Server machine with all the updates and everything...distributes IP addresses to the client workstations through DHCP...well sometimes I'll get people at work saying "this printer wont print" (network printer) or "i cant get on the internet" and most of the time I will check the Services on the server and the DHCP Server service is just stopped...its on to start Automatically and usually it works fine...I don't notice exactly when it stops until the first expired IP address machine tries to perform a network function...any ideas about this?

5:1 it's some fucking idiot putting a router on your network using it as a hub. Was happening to me a few months ago and was driving me nuts. Finally found it under someone's desk.

Basically their router had DHCP on... which causes IP conflicts, so the printer suddenly won't print because all the jobs are going to joe blow who took the ip.

still screwed up...we have a wireless router for one or two laptops in the office but the DHCP Server has been off on that for months/years...I still need to follow up on some knowledgebase articles but damn! At least restarting the service is an easy fix but damn! but damn! but damn!

ok i narrowed it down a bit but still need some help...

in my eventvwr log, I see a few DHCP errors correlating with the stoppage of the DHCP Server service

Event ID: 1014
The JET Database call returned the following error: -1032. Additional Debug Information: JetBackup

Event ID: 1016
The DHCP Service encountered the following error when backing up the database: An error occurred while accessing the DHCP database. Look at the DHCP Server event log for more information on this error.

Now the DHCP Server usually cleans up the database everyday at about midnight with no errors...just informational entries into the event viewer...how do I look at the DHCP Server event log at all? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
