http://miniaim.net/

miniaim is a tiny AOL Instant Messaging client written in C++ and using The TOC 2.0 protocol. miniaim uses only the Win32 API, which gives it its small size.

miniaim is compressed with the UPX compressor.

I started miniaim in college in order to teach myself the Win32 API, and also to see if I could write an AIM client in <75k. It has been a great learning experience, and I hope that there are a lot of people out there that are enjoying miniaim.

There is little documentation for miniaim at this time. If you have questions or comments, please check out the forum.

Ever heard of AIM Express? All you need is a web browser. So it's more portable than this program...

some companies disable java on their work computers so people cant get on the net and play games or goof around all day. this prog would totally bypass that.

ineresting. I made one that used the OSCAR protocol because AIM didn't have a lot of the features I wanted and nor did any of the ADD-ONs at the time. Primarily I wanted IM logging to an Access database because everything I could find logs to text files and the searching isn't nearly as fast. Sadly I forgot to back it up when I formatted my PC to install Windows XP Media Center Edition . (and there's no way I'm learning OSCAR again -- could never get direct connections to work, but I didn't care cuz I don't use them)

Of course, my program required microsofts JET database dll and the windows sockets control (and VB6 runtime files). However, even packaged with all the DLL's, TLB's and OCX's it came in at around a meg.

press the refres button 54675834 times until the profile shows up. that's the AIM server's fault.

i don't see what's so great about it. it's a fairly complete implementation of a protocol that's been out for years but there are tons of those out there. they get bonus points for the small footprint, but it's visual appeal and usability is obviously lacking. and even with the small footprint, who doesn't have 10MB to install the real thing?

wait wait, i'm sorry if i caused any confusion, but I didn't mean for anyone to think I made this sorry. I just thought it was really cool. I didn't read the whole description, so I didn't realize it said that stuff about "when I was in college, blah blah," but I can understand why people would think that. my bad!

I did help create an instant messaging system before with my company, http://www.liquidcs.com
but it had nothing to do with aim
