Quote : | " Marcus Vick Arrested, Future as Hokie Unsure
By Mark Schlabach
Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, January 6, 2006; 1:54 PM
Quarterback Marcus Vick, whose future at Virginia Tech seems in jeopardy for his on-field actions during the Jan. 2 Gator Bowl, also is facing new off-field problems.
Vick, the younger brother of former Tech All-American and current Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, was arrested Dec. 17 in Hampton, Va., and charged with misdemeanor driving on a suspended or revoked driver's license, according to the Virginia Judicial Systems Web site.
The charge was not reported on the state's Web site until yesterday.
Vick, who led the Hokies to a 10-2 record in his first season as a starter, already is under intense criticism for stomping on the leg of Louisville All-American defensive end Elvis Dumervil during Virginia Tech's 35-24 victory on Monday.
Hokies Coach Frank Beamer was scheduled to meet today with Vick and his mother in Suffolk, Va., to discuss his future with the Hokies. According to Virginia Tech sources, Vick would be suspended for at least the Hokies' 2006 opener if he returns to the team.
Vick, 21, missed all of the 2004 season while serving a school-imposed suspension following two separate incidents in which he was charged with crimes while enrolled at Virginia Tech.
In September 2004, Vick pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for giving alcohol to underage girls. In July 2005, Vick was arrested for speeding, and police found marijuana in his car. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving and no contest to possession of marijuana.
When the school announced Vick's semester-long suspension last year, Virginia Tech President Charles M. Steger said if Vick faced additional off-field troubles, "his Virginia Tech career is effectively ended."

^ no defending what he did, but I am willing to bet the girls didn't look, act, or say they were 14. And apparently any sex was consensual or denied, otherwise he'd be in jail.

someone will take him 3rd/4th round just because... maybe even atlanta so then they can trade Matt Schaub 1/6/2006 3:38:29 PM |

I hope Atlanta drafts him...since I already hate them he would fit right in. I think his future is as a WR in the NFL so maybe his brother would throw him the ball...if he learns how to between now and then.
If not ATL, he probably could fit in at Oakland...then Ronald Curry can teach him how to be a WR from QB.
Or option three is he will become Marice Clarett part 2 1/6/2006 3:40:40 PM |

Supposedly the license was valid - but the police dept. where he was pulled didn't have that in their system. And the speeding was 38 in a 25. 1/6/2006 3:43:58 PM |

^come on...don't believe the VT spin...I heard the 38 in a 25 and driving with a suspending license but it will be dropped b/c he just forgot to fill out a form when he got the reckless ticket.
I got a reckless ticket and there are no forms....All it is is VT spin b/c they don't want it to look like Beamer covered the whole thing up so he could play in the Bowl game. 1/6/2006 4:04:20 PM |

1. Rat, kiss my ass.
2. I don't see this being much different from the TA incident (pulled for drinking while driving, but not DUI), with the exception that TA didn't have a laundry list of prior infractions. With Hokie fans claiming he wasn't "arrested" and didn't have a revoked license, I wonder how the Washington Post got it so wrong

It does - but what does it have to do with this story?
The Vick arrest was 2+ weeks ago, I think they'd have time to check their facts - esp. considering someone's older brother has the $ to sue them.1/6/2006 4:51:10 PM |

Quote : | "Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick has been permanently dismissed from the Hokie football program due to a cumulative effect of legal infractions and unsportsmanlike play.
Virginia Tech had suspended Vick in 2003. The university provided one last opportunity for Vick to become a citizen of the university and re-admitted him in January 2004, with the proviso that any future problems would result in automatic dismissal from the team.
Head Football Coach Frank Beamer met with Vick and his mother this afternoon and informed the quarterback and his family of the University's decision. His recent actions are unfortunate and we wish him well in his future endeavors.

Said Coach Frank Beamer, "I'm very disappointed that this didn't have a better ending. We wanted what's best for this football team and Marcus. I certainly wish him the best." " |

Quote : | " Tech coach Frank Beamer will be in the Hampton Roads, Va., area today and meet with Brenda Boddie, Vick's mother, and Vick to discuss the player's options. If Vick doesn't accept the suspension, he will either have to transfer to another school or turn pro.
To gain immediate eligibility next season by transferring, he'd have to go to a Division I-AA or lower-level school. Vick has said he doesn't plan to enter the NFL Draft. " |
i think he would definitely get taken by someone in the draft if he went. I know he said he doesn't plan to enter the draft, but this dismissal might change that.1/6/2006 5:15:10 PM |

Yeah, they'll have one mobile quarterback after another as well as great running backs. Elan Lewis is going to be amazing for VT in the years to come. They pretty much recruit all of Hampton High School and Heritage High School's roster (best teams in VA year after year). Beamer has such a monopoly on the Hampton Roads area... why don't we go after some of these guys? 1/6/2006 7:53:13 PM |

so someone more knowledgeable than myself please comment on Kid Vick as a player. I saw him in the first State game and he didn't seem to do that great but on the radio and the paper the next day everyone was talking about how great he was like he was the second coming. I don't know enough about football to evaluate him as a player. As a person he sounds like a complete JACKASS but how is he as a player? Will he make a mark in the pros like his brother has? 1/6/2006 8:14:51 PM |
