Does anyone know anything about changing your last name? I know with marriage it is easy because you just need the marriage liscence and some form of idea... that was a quick five minute process. But, I was told that it is harder to change your name back. I looked at the social security website and it almost sounds like I don't have to do anything to change my name back except have idea with both names on it... I have both social security cards with both last names, I haven't even changed my drivers liscence or half of my credit cards to my new name (I've only had the new one for maybe 7 months) Anyone done this before? 1/11/2006 5:31:27 PM |

BUT JUST TO BE SURE...here's an idea that incorporates both names
it's ID - identification.1/11/2006 6:00:57 PM |

ambrosia, I can't decide if you are using sarcasm or not... but I've decided that since your post doesn't make much sense that that was what you were going for. I have id... in my maiden name currently since I lost my military id... but I can have both...' i'm so confused. i guess i will just call them 1/11/2006 9:25:21 PM |

Mmmm...can't remember the details, but I changed my last name when I turned 18 (definitely nothing to do with a marriage). All I remember was that my cousin handled it (he's a lawyer) and that the fucker charged me legal fees (he did it for my sister for free two years before). It was like a hundred and fifty bucks I think.
I would chat with a lawyer. 1/11/2006 10:18:23 PM |

Just bring the divorce papers to the nearest Social Security office (same place where you got it changed the first time) and have a new card issued. Then just keep the papers on hand when you get new drivers license, etc. Call all credit card ppl/businesses/banks and make sure they change your name over phone or cancel and reopen accounts (for bank will have to probably do in person). Also go down to Harris Hall and fill out a name change form with NCSU if you are part of their system (student or faculty). 1/12/2006 2:14:26 AM |

Quote : | "heh... why did I marry him in the first place? Ya know, that's a good question that I have a stupid answer to that doesn't really make sense.... so, we'll just say it was a bad time in my life where i basically thought getting married would help me run away from my problems... considering that i sent him to Ohio packing 3 months prior should have been a big clue that it was a bad idea to get married when he came back.... which he came back after my roommate had moved out on me (b/c her boyfriend and I didn't get along), and asked me to marry him... I was depressed... everyone told me it was a bad idea... I probably did it to spite my parents and my x-fiance.... and we'll just say i wasn't right in the head at the time. the odd thing is that he married me full well knowing that I was in love with my X and didn't love him as anything more than a friend... which doesn't say much for his mental stability either.... the difference is that he is still that way and asks "what's the difference between then and now. if we stay married maybe one day you'll love me"... becuase he is madly in love with me (or so he claims).... did I mention that we did a spur of the moment court house wedding because no one approved of us getting married. I even use to tell him on a regular basis that I would never be anything more than his friend. So the moral of the story is don't get married when you are 20 and don't run away from your problems. And the state should make it harder to get married... you shouldn't be able to get your marriage liscence and get married on the same day.

haha.... At this point it wouldn't be rebound.... it's been about a year since I told him i didn't want to be with him and about 7 months since i moved into a place completely in my name (which nc will use as proof of separation), and I have already started dating a bit. now that i've been thinking about it it really shouldn't be hard to get my name changed.... i really think you can just use two forms of id that have the name you are going by and the name you want to change it to. I guess they think it is hard to have a government issued id with a name that isn't actually yours... it's not! 1/12/2006 10:37:31 AM |

If you have your old SS card and your new SS card and then your state ID/Driver's License (one with your old name and one with your new name), it shouldn't be a problem...I'd also bring the divorce papers just to be sure though. 1/13/2006 2:32:14 PM |

Just go on the state gov. website and look it up. I'm pretty sure getting your name changed after a divorce is almost as easy as getting your name changed after a marriage. I am in the process of getting my name changed because I just got married. At the SS office, all you have to do is bring your divorce papers and fill out your little form and BAM! it's that simple 1/13/2006 3:57:29 PM |

The easiest way is to include something like this in the divorce papers:
