make ANY uncalled penalty subject to review, but keep the number of challenges the same, so the game won't be slowed down any more. pass interference and holding specifically come to mind. probably not feasible, but that blatant PI on carter really pissed me off 1/16/2006 2:18:12 AM |

The stupidest rule in the NFL is that touchback rule if the ball goes out of the endzone if you drop the ball. Like on the play reviewed today during the Chicago-Carolina game. Chicago RB dives towards the endzone with the ball extended. . . the ball comes loose and goes over the pylon and out of the side of the endzone. Since he didn't have control of the ball, it is not a touchdown. It is a touchback and the other team gets the ball on the 20.
It would have happened except for the facemask penalty on Carolina.
They need to get rid of this shit for next year. 1/16/2006 2:28:56 AM |

if you fumble and the ball goes out of bounds you get the ball where you fumbled. so why is it when you fumble and the ball goes out of bounds IN THE ENDZONE its a turnover and basically says the other team has possesion? thats why it doesnt make sense
leaping is also stupid. (not all kinds but the kind where you cant land on another player. i understand not being able to jump off a player but how can you not jump onto a player)
its like nobody ever thought about rules for time with penalties. if a penalty is commited and the down is replayed the time is lost. also, if a team is running the clock out they can get a holding flag on a run and get the down back, lose the time from the play and the clock continues to run for another playclock. theres a million other situations that can happen with penalties and time thats just retarded. 1/16/2006 2:49:54 AM |

in reality, its the same reason why u cant lose the ball out of the back of your own endzone, resulting in a safety
except u dont give up points, u give the ball to the other team 1/16/2006 2:59:00 AM |

getting an interception and them reviewing it and seeing that you clearly caught it, controlled it while you rolled around, and then knocked it out of your own hand while your knee was on the ground (Polamalu INT)

I'm actually pretty happy with the current set of rules when the refs enforce them(which, of course, is another issue completely).
I think that the qb slide rule is weak though.

Change the penalty for defensive pass interference to 10 yards and an automatic first down. The rule as it stands creates late game strategies where the ball is thrown 60 yards in hopes that 1) it will be caught and 2) if it isn't at least there is a good change you will get the pass interference call which results in a 60 yard penalty.
This wouldn't be so bad if they were a little more consistent with the pass interference call. They should probably make the PI reviewable but I'm sure if they did the coaches would want the refs to review every PI call. 1/16/2006 7:38:49 AM |

It is that way in college i'm pretty sure. 15 yds despite how long the pass is.
I actually think it's a good rule. Say they had the "10 yard rule" you talked about. You're a cornerback... last play of the half/game. The wide receiver blows past you with no safety help and has a wide open field ahead if the QB throws it to him and you know he's gonna score...80 + yards or so. The ball is in the air.... why not just yank his jersey and bring him to the ground right then and there? You're telling me that should be a 10 yard penalty?
There's really no perfect solution to it. Either way, there are going to be iffy circumstances.

Nope. NFL overtime sucks ass.
College does too... I personally think they should start the ball on the 40 (To take you out of field goal range from the get-go), but NFL overtime sucks....bad. If you're not going to do it like college....at LEAST let them play the entire OT period, and not just the first to score. That's shitty

the reason nfl has sudden death is so it wont last long. the reason college starts on the 25 is so it wont last long. if you didnt start in field goal range the game could go on forever. 1/16/2006 12:34:27 PM |
PackBacker All American 14415 Posts user info edit post |
^ Like I said. I can live with starting on the 25. I wish they'd take it back to the 35 or 40 (Especially in the NFL), but sudden death I'm just not a big fan of. Someone...eventually....will get 15 yards and hit a field goal. At least then you can kind of determine the better team.
Basically, the team that wins the toss wins the game. That's not cool
