Our communications program has got to be just as good as GTechs.

I did not know their engineering school was ranked so high. Also NC State has really fallen down in the engineering rankings over the last 4-5 years. We were a top 25, now at 28. But still ahead of Duke.

Paul Hewitt can disagree with what's said and can be angry about it, but when he starts engaging fans with such vitriol, he crosses the same line (to a much lesser extent, granted) that Stephen Jackson and Ron Artest crossed last year. I'm not saying it's as bad, but coaches are paid good money and it is his job to remain professional. Secondly, the potshot at NC State as a university is trite and unnecessary. Check the average SAT score for NC State students. It's pretty good. I graduated from State and am at the UNC School of Medicine. I don't think I received a poor education or went to a second rate school. Are there schools with better reputations? Certainly. Still it is frustrating that as a university, we continue to have to fight against this stereotype of being dumb rednecks. It's simply not true. You are perpetuating that stereotype with your column and I think that's irresponsible journalism. Were State fans justified in taunting Tarver? No, not really. But did they do anything original or unique to NC State by taunting? Also no. Did Paul Hewitt show class by yelling an obscenity at NC State students? No. Did you make the best decision when you stereotyped an entire university by stating, "Hard to believe those idiots taunted Tarver about academic anything. Um, hello? He goes to Georgia Tech. You go to N.C. State?" Absolutely not."
