Unless you've changed something, "Shuffle Songs" is the 2nd last option on the main menu. Just "click" to the bottom, then click up one and select it. Boom.

^ that wont work since the "Now Playing" option may or may not be there

Just do this:
1. hold down the center button and menu buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds, this will reset your iPod
2. give it about 30 seconds to reboot fully
3. use the wheel to scroll down 3 clicks, this will be on the Shuffle Songs option
4. hit the center button or play to start listening to songs

(i've got a 4th Gen iPod too)
